Sarah Connor will be more “viewer friendly”

July 15, 2008 By Mike Hickerson 10 Comments

When Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles returns in September, the show will attempt to be more “viewer friendly” says executive producer, John Wirth.

“We’ve worked hard trying to help everyone catch up,”  Wirth told USA Today’s Robert Bianco. “And these episodes are a little more self-contained. We were pretty heavily serialized last year.”

The move to a less serialized format for the show is hoped to lure back viewers.  Last year, Sarah Connor started with gang-buster ratings but saw a steep decline over the course of the season.  The numbers were picking up as the season ended, but a long hiatus may have made viewers forget what’s happening in the on-going storyline.  The series had been on hiatus since March with no summer repeats from FOX.

The first season will hit DVD on August 19 and then return for its second season on FOX in early September.

Maybe, if they want to lure in new viewers, don’t muck with it, and it’ll keep gaining like it was. As for the hiatus, if they want people to remembre what’s going on in the show, maybe they should RE-RUN THE SERIES! They don’t have a problem endlessly rerunning House for frak’s sake!

    oy.

As I recall, FOX was planning to rerun the series in August, so that the first season finale would lead directly into the second season premiere.

That said, I’m not sure about this move. The serialized nature of the story was one of its strengths. I’d hate for the series to lose its teeth.

Any chance of a Blu-ray release of Season 1?

Re-run the first season and DONT F____ wth it. When a producer says, “more viewer friendly;” this can be translated as, “We’re going to dumb this sucker down so people who watch “wrastlin” can get it.”

This is the beginning of the end for The Sarah Conner Chronicles.

Kurt in St George, I’m offended. “Wrastlin” is my favorite show on the SciFi channel. I can’t really think of anything more SciFi than two guys smelling each other’s armpits.

Whatever happen to tell a good story and you’ll develop an audience? Sounds a little like cart before the horse, but, then again, maybe the story line can be tweaked to be more stand alone.

They need to keep the old format and do a quick recap like they did/do on 24 or how they recapped Angel to pick up the salient threads. Then people can watch without all this neat tidying up that may be too pat for some. Or, knowing Fox, they could do what Lost is doing by replaying the previous ep prior to airing the newest one.

Euhm guys… don’t forget that it’s on FOX. This is most likely a plan to lower the numbers below the cancellation threshold.
