SciFi Rolls Out Season Premiere, Finale Dates

July 7, 2008 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

Cable outlet the SCI FI Channel appears to be following the mold of other cable outlets and FOX, offering viewers a year-round schedule of original and new-to-the-network programming.

As we reported earlier today, this week sees the return of Stargate: Atlantis for its fifth season. According to a report on the Futon Critic, the mid-season finale will air on Friday, September 26th.

Once Atlantis has completed its first half of the season, new comer Sanctuary will premiere the following Friday, October 3rd. Sanctuary stars Amanda Tapping and was first realized as an Internet-based series. The series utitlizes virtual sets and garnered enough of a following to get SCI FI to take a chance on airing it on the network. (Hopefully, it will be better treated than Charlie Jade).

Eureka returns later this month on July 27th and will air its mid-season finale on Tuesday, Sept. 23. No word yet on when the final set of episodes for the third season will air, though it probably won’t be before sometime in 2009. (The series will be replaced by wrestling when it goes on hiatus).

Ghost Hunters and Destination Truth return with new episodes on Wednesday, September 3. They’ll take over for Ghost Hunters International and Scare Tactics which wrap their summer runs on August 20 and August 13, respectively.

The network will also air repeats of ABC’s hit series Lost starting this fall. Four episodes will air in a block on Mondays starting September 15.

The information didn’t include a possible start-date for the final half of Battlestar Galactica’s fourth season, nor did it address how SCI FI will handle the longer run time of the fourth series finale of Doctor Who. As soon as we have any information, we’ll pass it along here or in the show.

Just to be clear, “Eureka” starts its third season on Tuesday, July 29th, not Sunday, July 27th. There will be a marathon on both Sunday and Tuesday. But the new season starts on Tuesday.

What? Flash Gordon isn’t returning? Oh, the humanity! How will we live without this pinnacle of programming?

Why is it that the “braniacs” who schedule things put huuuuuuge hiatuses (hiatusi? hiatusees?) right smack in the middle of their hit scripted shows? It’s just enough to get into the groove of seeing them regularly and then they disappear. 🙁

Remind me again what the hell wrestling had to do with Scifi?
