Any poster pairing that man’s name with that film’s title is easily the most blasphemous thing I have ever seen — and, since I have no intention of seeing the advertised product, it is likely to remain the most blasphemous thing I have ever seen.
I think these people need to chill out. I watched the first trailer of this movie and it’s looking good. They have to make a lot of changes from the 1950’s one to keep it 21’s century. Hope to see more.
I saw a trailer for this at Hancock and although I wanted to hate it because I’m supposed to hate this remake of a classic, I didn’t. I’m giving it a chance.
I have to agree with Sophia, I really wanted to hate this too. But the trailer looked good. But then again, any movie can be made to look good with the 30 best seconds. And the whole line “If the Earth dies you die, if you die the Earth survives” made me laugh.
Yeah. After the trailer, I have to agree that I will give this one a chance. Besides, I’m a fan of Keanu’s work so of course I’ll see this even though it pisses me off that Hollywood would even consider touching this sacred cow.
How is this a remake? What is the purpose of utilizing the title of a classic movie if it’s plot distances itself from the original to the point of it being unrecognizable? Call it something else, otherwise it is false advertising.
Bear in mind, that the remake is not going to be a faithful rendition of the original. The original is a ‘classic’ conveying a pretty important philosophy.
The modern version looks to be shaping up nicely, if a little more darker and edge of realism to it. I say give it a chance, instead of being ‘snobbish’ and ‘purist’ about the original. The two films will share the same philosophy – how we are responsible for our own actions, and their impact upon wider-than-local environments, but they will each be as individual from each other as I am from each of you.
I do agree with the earlier poster whom felt that an actor in the calibre of Ralph Finnes would have brought exceeding justice to the part of Klaatu, and for Keanu, I feel he will either be villified or praised for what he brings to the role. I hope it is the later.
If it’s not going to be a straight remaking, but rather a reimagining, I’ll give it a shot. While I like Keanu, I think Ralph Fiennes would have been great, but I think he’s kinda busy being Lord Voldemort right now.
I was a little miffed about the Death Race 2000 remake too, but they played a trailer for it before the press screening of Wanted (and they never play trailers at press screenings), and it’s more like Running Man than the original Death Race. Plus, seeing Jason Statham inflict havoc and damage makes it look like it’ll be a mindless fun action movie.

Well, Keanu Reeves does do emotionless scenes well. (And from the trailer, it looks like that’s how he’s playing his character.)
