SCI FI Channel Moves “Charlie Jade”

SCI FI Channel Moves “Charlie Jade”

June 18, 2008 By Sam Sloan 27 Comments

After only two episodes aired the SCI FI Channel pulls a Fox by moving the innovative South African series “Charlie Jade” from its debut, primetime Friday night timeslot to 3 a.m. ET Monday.

With hardly any advance warning and little to no advertising fans of the show may not realize it is still running on the channel. Hopefully most have their DVRs and TiVos set to find it wherever and whenever it airs.

    …..

nice. Yeah, BSG isn’t being held until 2009 for any reason than the people that run that channel are worthless.

Are we totally sure that Fox has not taken over SCI-FI? Some of the things that they have been doing are nuts.

That is awful, I mean as a fan I will make the effort to watch this great series again, but I been trying to get some people to watch it. There is no way it will be able to build an audience. But I guess wasn’t much chance of another season ever getting done anyway, but I was hoping. This is like the nail in coffin for another season.

    WHAT?!

Oh that is just… wrong. I mean, Charlie Jade is an intriguing series with a complex plot and compelling characters. It’s something I’m willing to stay in on a Friday night to watch. Why in the world are they putting in the graveyard slot with infomercials and ancient syndicated shows before it’s even had a chance to catch on? I’m having Wonderfalls flashbacks.

Thank Jeebus I have a DVR. I just hope this doesn’t mean they’ll dump it entirely. From what I understand of the distribution world, they might not even release the DVDs here if it doesn’t at least air on cable. (Heck, we’re having enough trouble getting The Inside and the third season of seaQuest, American-produced shows that did air on major networks.)

I really wish programming executives would have a little more faith in their audiences.

And SciFi wonders where the viewers are. I suppose I should just be grateful that their entire primetime lineup isn’t filled with wrestling and ghost hunting.

Why is the Sci-Fi Channel bothering to put ANYTHING on TV if they don’t give it a chance?

And two episodes is NOT really that much of a chance AT ALL.

The new timeslot can obviously be chalked up to contractual obligation. They pulled the same stunt with the two-hour version of the Dresden Files pilot.

Hopefully we’ll get a DVD set at some point in the future. In the meantime, seeing as how I don’t have a DVR (or even a working VCR), I’m out of luck. Thanks a lot, Sci-Fi. My love/hate relationship with you continues. *sigh*

Seriously, we got an entire season of craptastic Flash Gordon, and only 2 episodes of Charlie Jade? I’ve never seen the series before and after hearing you guys hype it so much, I was looking forward to watching it. I’ve been trying to get folks interested in the show – well that goes down the crapper now. I’ll just hope my DVR catches what they air, which at this point probably won’t be the rest of the season.

    3 AM? Why even bother.

They should move rasslin’ to 3 am for crying out loud.

The SciFi channel has fallen a long way. What does wrestling have to do with SciFi? Ghost Hunting? Their schedule if getting worse and worse. The majority of their made for SciFi movies are junk. Now a great show like Charlie Jade comes along and they put it in a 3 am slot? I just pray that Eureka will be left alone.

I only caught the second episode ans was kinda confused, but, am more then willing to give it a chance. I like wrestling, but agree it has no business on SciFi no matter how staged it is. I am wondering if these are the same people that were running MTV?? They start off with KICK-ASS stuff and then slowly strangle every ounce of goodness out of it.

For me it’s 2 AM, since I live in the midwest, but still. 2 AM? Are you kidding me? Couldn’t they at least air it right after the Monday night anime shows? That would make the airtime two hours earlier.

Well, I guess I will have to download the show. There is no way that I can stay up that late when I have to work the next day.

I’m just going to download all the episodes and be done with it. If Scifi Channel isn’t going to give it a chance, they’re really not losing much advertising dollars by me downloading it.

I didn’t start watching it because of what I heard about it. I had a feeling that the network would pull it or do something stupid like they did and I didn’t want to get into it just to have it ripped from me without knowing what happens. I’m sure the show is wonderful and I will probly find other means to watch it at some point but I will half to wait.

I did however notice at the end of the BSG that instead of telling us when it would come back they just said that it is “Coming Soon”.

well that’s it. this season was filmed 3 years ago. i held off finding other means to watch it since sci-fi was running it. i don’t have a dvr and can’t (obviously) stay up or wake up at 3am on a monday night/tuesday morning.

entertainment industry: you wonder why people seek out bootlegs to your stuff? look no further. this is the perfect show for a channel called “sci-fi”, but no, they’d rather whore out to theatrical wrestling and supernatural beings. mr. jade, fear not. you will be torrenting on down the tubes in no time.

ps: oh, and sci-fi… yeah, thanks for the advanced warning, douchebags.

Luckily my DVR has found it in its new timeslot – I just hope for some strange reason it won’t be shifted a half hour or something. I was quite surprised that it was removed in the upcoming listings for a repeat of the previous week’s Doctor Who.

Why is everyone griping about a 3am or 2am timeslot? Set your DVR (or VCR) and sleep! At least it’s being aired; many folks have already commented that they’re going to time-shift the show, so don’t be so quick to roast SciFi. Granted, I think what they’re doing overall is pretty shoddy, but I’d rather have this than cancelling CJ outright.

    “tlsmith1963 Says:

Which is exactly what I did…LAST YEAR.
Still, I made it a point to tune in so my cable company could track a viewer.
skyfan, the thing is this: DVD/VCR numbers AREN’T TRACKED.
If the advertisers can’t have hard numbers as to how many people are watching, then they aren’t interested…and that’s death for a show.
3am? On MONDAY??? Why the hell didn’t they just cancel it and call it a frackkin’ day?

So tell me where to download it, please? I’m fascinated by this show, but with SciFi switching the time slot with no warning, I’ve already missed at least one, probably two, of the episodes. I use a VCR and the cable’s ‘record’ function — which means it does NOT track if the time shifts.
SciFi should be ashamed of itself.

Sci Fi Channel is really starting to be LAME! so I just bit torent downloaded the whole season of Charlie Jade and it only took about 4 hours to DL the whole season and it’s AWESOME!! I only wish they had made a season 2 as I put the show on par with Battlestar Galactica,… and the fact that it’s filmes in south africa is very FRESH!

I guess bit torrent is the only way to watch the show if you do no access to the Sci Fi channel. The only DVD’s I see online are for region 2. The official web site is down.

I am really tired of finding good televison only to have it jerked away. Sorry, Ghost Hunting and wrestling and reality(??) tv just doesn’t suit me. Most of my 62+ years I have watched this. I loved the original Star Trek watching it at a friends house coz it wasn’t allowed in mine. “Fantastical junk!” I was told. But look at its longevity and reinventions. Babylon 5 struggled. Jerecho died. Firefly died. That is only a few and just the American shows. I fear for Doctor Who and Torchwood and Primeval. I mourn for Simms “Life on Mars”. I have watched my share of bad scifi if only in hopes of keeping the genre alive hopeing better will come. I’ve set many alarm for 4AM shows. Charlie Jade is dark and full of thought and intellegence—of course it will fail.

Why don’t disgusted viewers just find something else to watch instead of “scyfy” in July? Without Enterprise, they can keep it.
