The cable network Animal Planet has announced “Extraordinary Animals”, a new series following the lives of animals with unusual abilities and talents narrated by “Star Trek” and “Boston Legal” star William Shatner.

Set to debut the Friday, June 13, the series will look for animals that have abilities more in line with humans than their counterparts in the animal kingdom. On tap are an elephant that also paints with her trunk; a sea lion capable of logic, a skill once thought to be reserved for humans; a dog that can do mathematics; and a cat that can play the piano.

There will be 17 episodes in all starting this Friday at 9:30pm. Check local listings.
