Slice of SciFi News Briefs

Ronald D. Moore of “Battlestar Galactica” and “Star Trek” fame is moving to the big screen with a major SF film trilogy for United Artists. At this time the storyline for the three films is not being revealed.

Major Western inspired theme amusement parks centering on such characters as Wonder Woman, King Kong and Shrek are going to be built in the oil rich Persian Gulf country of the United Arab Emirates. The big question is…will these parks go over well in the Muslim world? Hollywood and some major Arab Sheiks are counting on it.

A Russian space capsule landed about 420 kms (260 miles) off course in Kazakhstan on Saturday but the crew was safe, an official at the mission control centre told Reuters. Rescuers had established radio contact with the crew and Russian flight engineer Yuri Malenchenko confirmed all aboard were safe.

Martial arts gurus Jackie Chan and Jet Li are expected to top the box office charts this weekend with the North American debut of their latest film “The Forbidden Kingdom.” It is expected to easily surpass the $20 million mark for a 3-day showing.

New DVD releases to keep an eye out for are J.J. Abrams produced feature “Cloverfield,” “The Orphanage,” and “One Missed Call.” Some non-SF films to consider are Tom Hanks’ brilliant performance in “Charlie Wilson’s War” and Frank Langella’s shining light in “Starting Out in the Evening.”

“Lost” executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof let loose some major spoilers for the remainder of the show’s fourth season, which will continue with new episodes on April 24. Here are just a few things fans can expect:

  • The battle between Jack, played by Matthew Fox and Locke (Emmy winner Terry O’Quinn) will come to a head in the season finale.
  • More will be seen of the mysterious Smoke Monster.
  • Viewers learn the fate of Claire, portrayed by actress Emilie de Ravin.
  • What really happened to Rousseau (Babylon 5’s Mira Furlan) and Karl (Blake Bashoff) after they were shot and left for dead? Fans will finally find out.
  • Some of the mystery surrounding the four-toed statue is revealed.
  • And, Jacob returns to the picture as a central, albeit nebulous character.

  • Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry, son of Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, has met with J.J. Abrams on the set of the new Star Trek movie and says that Abrams will stay true to established Star Trek canon begun by his father over 40 years ago, while still being able to capture a new and younger audience.

i’ll never forgive moore for his sullying of gene rodddenberry’s vision and ruin of enterprise, see “these are the voyages”.

i blame the cancellation of enterprise on him as much as berman.

i think galatica’s redux success is mainly due to Katie Sachoff and the character she created, starbuck.

moore deserves zero credit, anyway he just ripped off the ideas from hatch’s rebirth series.

The human cylon idea originated their.
