The live-action 3-D adaption of the popular Ghost in the Shell franchise got a boost recently from one of the most influential people in Hollywood, Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg.
The rights to a live-action version of the popular manga which spawned a Japanese animated film and TV series, were obtained last year by Prodution I.G. reports IGN.  The studio began negotiating with Hollywood for the live-action version of the film and got a boost at DreamWorks studio when Spielberg encouraged the studio to force through a deal.Â
“Ghost in the Shell is one of my favorite stories,” said Spielbert. “It’s a genre that has arrived, and we enthusiastically welcome it to DreamWorks.”
While there is no word yet on how much more involved with the project Spielberg will be, another big Hollywood player is already on board. Marvel Studio’s Ari Avid will produce the film.Â
The script is by a Hollywood newcomer, Jamie Moss. Moss wrote the upcoming Street Kings.
DreamWork’s head of production Adam Goodman said this project “epitomizes 3-D live-action motion picture possibilities.”
for the love of god why can’t hollywood leave anime alone.
They will ruin g.i.t.s. like they did transformers, and will ruin akira, evangelion, dragon ball Z.
unless it is an all japanese cast and is directed by ohshii i vote for a boycott.
I thought transformers was great….if you don’t like it, no one is forcing you to watch it.
