The U.S. Justice Department approved the merger between satellite radio companies Sirius and XM Monday, more than a year after the two companies first announced their deal.
In its decision, the Department of Justice (DOJ) determined that an XM-Sirius merger would not be anti-competitive for such media giants like Clear Channel, CBS and Apple iTunes.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) still has to give final approval before it becomes official but after the DOJ ruling, this is only seen as a formality. No one is sure how long it will take for the FCC to make its final ruling on the matter.
The merger will combine the nation’s only two satellite radio companies and create a company with about 14 million subscribers. It would bring together Sirius’ most well-known content, including Howard Stern, and National Football League games with XM’s Major League Baseball as well programming from Slice of SciFi, Bob Dylan and Oprah Winfrey.

If this isn’t anti-competitive, what is? From now on, if you want sattelite radio, you HAVE to go to these guys.

It is anti-competitive I mean when did the “”media giants like Clear Channel, CBS NBC CBS and Apple iTunes and others get there own satellite radio tranmiters???
I for one will miss my XM!
I mean we all had a choice when we got our radios, XM or Sirius. Did we not? Iknow I did and my choice was XM as I did not like a lot of what Sirius was offering.
now the Government is telling us that we no longer can make our own choices or that our choices are not right, When did we lose our Fredom of choice?
I say the Government needs to say NO NO NO! to this merger between the ONLY TWO satellite radio companies Sirius and XM!
I think we all need to send our XM’s & Sirius’ Radios and tell them to stop trying to make our choises for us.
As well as letting our reps in Washington DC know how we fell about it.
