Slice of SciFi News Briefs
Big News: The SCI FI Channel has greenlit the BSG prequel titled “Caprica,” as a two-hour pilot, and has signed “Sin City” star Rosario Dawson to develop “True Believer,” a pilot for a possible series based on the comicbook she co-created.
Director Kevin Lima of “Enchanted,” has opted to helm a project initially passed on by the team of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. The movie, titled “Spook’s Apprentice,” will be a Warner Bros. and Legendary Films joint venture. The movie will be based on the Joseph Delaney series of children’s books about a 13-year old boy who learns how to be a wizard from an old ghost.
Star Trek: Phase II and Slice of SciFi join together in the call to get a star placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Walter Koenig, our friend and star of “To Serve All My Days†and “Star Trek: Of Gods and Men.” Walter has been a frequent guest on Slice of SciFi and a steadfast supporter of Star Trek: Phase II. He has consistently spread the word about both productions. The legendary actor/writer/director and producer has already been nominated for the star and the necessary funds have been secured to manufacture and install the star when and if awarded. Slice of SciFi and Star Trek: Phase II continue asking that fans assist in the effort to get Walter his well-deserved star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. More details can be found HERE.
“Battlestar Galactica” isn’t headed for the big-screen as other sci-fi franchises have gone before. “I think the series works best as an ensemble TV drama,” said Ronald D. Moore, an executive producer and main driving force behind the Peabody Award winning show. The series begins its fourth and final season on the SCI FI Channel April 4, 2008.
Anton Yelchin is in negotiations to star as post-apocalyptic warrior Kyle Reese (father of John Connor) in director McG’s “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.” Batman’s Christian Bale has already been cast as the futuristic, rugged, battle-hard adult John Connor, the man responsible for sending a younger Kyle back in time to become his father. Yelchin will next be seen in the big budget SF film “Star Trek” as Pavel Chekov in May 2009.
Stargate SG-1’s Beau Bridges (Gen. Landry) has joined the cast of the dramatic thriller “Max Payne,” based on the hit Rockstar video game, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Bridges will play B.B. Hensley, a former cop and mentor figure to Max Payne, who helps him track down a cunning, ruthless killer. Mark Wahlberg stars as Payne, a maverick cop determined to track down those responsible for the murder of his partner and family.
Writer John Fusco has completed a draft of the film adaptation of the popular young-adult novel Wolf Brother for producer Ridley Scott. Scott will not be helming the project about a boy named Torak, living in the Stone Age over 6,000 years ago.

Why are people still pushing for this Hollywood Walk of Fame crap? It means nothing. They’ve awarded it to too many undeserving people. No noe cares about that anymore. Let it die. If offered one, I would politely decline, lest they place me near Zsa Zsa Gabor or The Munchkins.
Not everyone feels that way and believes Walter deserves his place on the Walk of Fame.
