Wil Back On Trek

January 12, 2008 By Sam Sloan 10 Comments

wilwheaton.jpgWil Wheaton made a visit to a familiar set to film a new Star Trek segment.

He appears in his cleaned and pressed Starfleet uniform as the USS Titan’s Assistant Chief Engineer with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. The Titan is the Federation Starship commanded by Captain William Riker of “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

Wil starred a the young Wesley Crusher on that now famous Star Trek spin-off show that rejuvenated the Star Trek television franchise with three more spin-off series’. Fans of the Trek franchise literally watched Wheaton (ala Crusher) grown up on the set from an inquisitive young teen to a fine young man. The Next Generation spawned four of its own big screen film features, in which Wheaton appeared in the final Next Gen film titled “Nemesis.”

The part Wheaton stars in for this new adventure is actually a short video that was shot for the exciting new “Star Trek: The Tour” that opens next Thursday (Jan. 17) in Long Beach, California aboard the famous Queen Mary vessel.

More information can be found on Wil’s blog and for full details about Star Trek: The Tour, go HERE.

Well there’s a minus for the film. Wil is the reason I quit watching the original series.

Wesley (originally Lesley)Crusher was a great disappoint.
Originally a math genius girl, the character was ( sexists) given a sex change and appeared on the series as a boy.
Then, the math genius boy gave up math to become some kind of mystical creature.
Finally, now clearly a failure at ascendence, he returns as a star fleet engineer. I would have hoped he would be Lucsian Prof of Math at Cambridge–before Prof.
    Data!!

fav Wesley Line: ” I am trying to calcuate the second derivative of the Riemann Tensor.” ( which he pronounced
    WRONG”. It still Rocks.

Second Fav Wesley Line: Gee, mom, I didn’t know you were interested in Warp Mechanics.

Good idea lost: Wesley announced that he is bored at Starfleet academy and is considering transfering to the
    Vulcan Science Academy.

Feverent Hope: That they never show the “TRAVELER” again.

    Way to read, Greg.

So Greg reads “The part Wheaton stars in for this new adventure is actually a short video that was shot for the exciting new “Star Trek: The Tour” that opens next Thursday”

And thinks, ah, that ‘short video’ for ‘Star Trek: The Tour’ must be Star Trek 11, the cinematic release of 2008. Yes, I’m sure a cinema release is a short video that advertises a tour. They’re the same thing.

    Then he says:

“Well there’s a minus for the film. Wil is the reason I quit watching the original series.”

Like I said, Greg. Way to read, buddy. Way to read.

wheaton is great. the character wes crusher was a bit annoying, as wheaton will readily acknowledge in his blog; but in the same blog, you can see that he has a deep appreciation and understanding of the star trek mythos.

Wil’s appearance in Nemesis was pretty small – and not there at all if you saw the fullscreen version (he was way over on the left of screen).

Not my favorite character in Next Gen, but really – the Wesley hating is a little over the top, even in this site. He get to make out with Ashley Judd after all 🙂

You rock Wil. This time around though, be more natural and don’t take any acting cues from Jonathan Frakes, that man is the worst actor I’ve seen since Hayden Christensen.
