Yesterday we laid to rest the rumor that actor-turned-director Peter Berg would be helming a remake of Frank Herbert’s “Dune.” He will!
It would seem Berg is Hollywood’s newest ‘Golden Boy.’ After the nominal success of the high-powered spy-war film “The Kingdom,” he has now become Tom Cruise’s choice as director for his new intense spy thriller “Edwin A. Salt.” Berg is now in talks to direct Cruise in the project.
“Salt” is a story about a CIA officer who is fingered as a Russian sleeper spy. He eludes capture by superiors who are convinced that he is out to assassinate the president and struggles to find the true traitor while attempting to reunite with his family.
So far this film idea has gone through several director choices, including Terry George (“Hotel Rwanda”) and Michael Mann (“Miami Vice”), according to The Hollywood Reporter. However, Berg appears to be a good fit with Cruise.
Berg, tapped for “Dune,” is currently in post-production on Will Smith ‘s SF/fantasy drama “Hancock.”
What the Hell do we need with another Dune re-make!! This is so totally not necessary. There are so many other great works out there that could be made into movies, mini-series, tv shows…let’s explore some of those people!
I agree. You can’t top the Scifi channel miniseries. That story can not be told in a feature length film. It just can’t.
Well lets hope they go back to Salvador Dali and H.R. Geiger’s original design for the film.
Although I’m a little tired of Dune movies.
I’m looking forward to some elses’ take on the book.

As long as Kevin J. Anderson is involved with this project in any way, it will not be Frank Herbert’s Dune, nor will it be accepted as such by the true Dune fans.
