Cage Is a National Treasure

December 23, 2007 By Sam Sloan 1 Comment

national_treasure_2_book_of_secrets_movie_image.jpg“National Treasure: Book of Secrets,” the Nicholas Cage sequel has earned the top spot for the weekend box office taking in an estimated $45.5 million with last week’s record breaker, “I Am Legend,” starring Will Smith holding firmly to second.

The kid’s holiday film “Alvin and the Chipmunks” continued strong in third, followed by the new entry from Oscar winner Tom Hanks called “Charlie Wilson’s War.” Fifth place was taken by the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp dark musical collaboration “Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.”

Smith’s film continues to break records taking in over #137 million in just 10 days. While “Book of Secrets” isn’t expected to pose any threat to that record, its figures for it’s opening weekend are impressive enough to tempt Disney to go for a third film in the franchise at some future date.

We shall have the full Top Ten box office winners for you later in the week.

I really enjoyed both National Treasure 2 and Sweeney Todd. What I can’t understand for anything is how the hell the Chipmunks movie did so well.
That, my friends, is a head-scratcher.
