The world of Sci-Fi and fantasy fandom is bigger now that it has ever been. Today there are a record number of science-fiction franchises bringing in huge profits every year, with millions of fervent fans connecting online and at conventions all over the globe. And yet, most people still think of these pointy eared, white armored, multi-sided-dice slinging fanatics simply as the lunatic fringe.

But who are these people? Why do they risk ridicule for what many outsiders consider nothing more than a trivial and juvenile pursuit?. Pegwarmers delves into the world of Sci-Fi and Fantasy fandom to discover what makes these devoted fans tick, and why it seems that “geek”, has become “chic”

Outrageous and often insightful, Pegwarmers is the feature length documentary that looks to uncover the veil of mystery and examine the stigma that surrounds this often misunderstood subculture. So set your phasers on stun, and join in on a Galactic adventure, as the documentary takes a passionate insiders look at the worlds of toy and comic collecting, Sci-Fi and Medieval costuming, fantasy gaming and everything else in between.

I saw Pegwarmers this past fall at the local film festival.

It’s quite good, and filmed from a fan’s point of view, so it doesn’t make fun of fandom (unlike so many other fandom-docs)…

I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of this film and being a collector and geek myself I have to say this is one of the best “fan” produced documentaries about our world. It’s funny and true to life. It doesn’t make fun of collectors. It shows the gambit of collecting from the extreme to the novice and it’s not only about collecting, it’s about being a geek and loving it.
