Kenny Starfighter Spin-off

December 7, 2007 By Sam Sloan 1 Comment

Skennystarfighter.jpgwedish television had a cult sci-fi hit back in 1999 called “Kenny Starfighter,” starring Johan Rheborg. The series revolved around an intergalactic, sort of dim-witted, hero called Kenny Starfighter. He is a less-than-stellar intergalactic crime fighting cadet (called Starfighters) from the Academy of Galaxy Heroes of the planet Mylta. After he crashes his space-bus in a small Earth community he teams up with a group of school kids to try and find out why their teachers are beginning to act in a bizarre fashion.

Kenny discovers that the evil Dr. Deo, a bad guy that the Galaxy Heroes have been tracking down, is the one behind their behavior. The show followed the escapades of Kenny Starfighter as he and the kids try and resolve this mystery.

Because of the show’s popularity it will now be made into a big-budgeted, big screen comedy film. The cost of the production will make this the most expensive comedy ever produced in Sweden (approx $6+ million USD). Series directors Carl Astrand and Mats Lindgerg return to helm the project, which gets underway in April 2008. Series star Johan Rheborg will reprise his role as Kenny Starfighter. The film will be released with the title “Kenny Begins.” It opens in Swedish theaters February 2009.

    Hey this is awesome.
I’m from Sweden and watched this show when it aired, and I think your description of it was good. Sure it’s made for children but has cheesy humour that is aimed for a broader audience. And I can tell you that 6+ million dollars for a Swedish movie is a lot. Most of the time they cost about half or something like that and are boring. This could be really good, and I like the spoof on the title for Batman Begins that they made. I also found this link http://kennybegins.se/
You can find a video-clip from the series there. obviously it’s in Swedish and doesn’t have any subtitles, but it’s worth a look.
