Coming Up on Slice of SciFi Show #136 — Star Trek: The Continuing Mission

November 21, 2007 By S. K. Sloan Leave a Comment

stdm-sebastianprooth.jpg stcm-andytyrer.jpgSebastian Prooth and Andy Tyrer, executive producers for the audio saga that continues the mission of Star Trek will be our guests for this post Thanksgiving Day Slice of SciFi Show. “Star Trek: The Continuing Mission” is an ambitious audio program that follows the adventures of Captain Paul Edwards and the crew of the Federation Starship USS Montana.

Prooth and Tyrer join our hosts in a detailed discussion about the show’s creation, its mission and more. The cast for the audio presentation is loaded with radio, stage, TV, film and broadcast veterans such as Tim Renshaw, who portrays Captain Paul Edwards, radio music personality Carl Chambers as Commander Darius Locke, Executive Officer, stage actress Etta Devine playing Ensign Susan Palmer, Helmsman, and veteran film actor Lawrence Montaigne (“The Great Escape”), most noted for portraying the Vulcan Stonn on TOS episode “Amok Time” — just to name a few of the highly talented cast and crew working tirelessly on the project. (As a trivia note: Montaigne has reprised his role of Stonn for the Tim Russ production of “Star Trek: Of Gods and Men,” which is currently in post production.)

On the rest of the show we have plenty of news and entertainment to help stimulate those digestive juices after all that turkey eating.

Batman has a new enemy and it’s not one you would commonly consider. Star Trek’s new Captain Christopher Pike, Bruce Greenwood, has his Number One and we tell you who it is. In our few fluff pieces for 2007 we consider Matt Damon’s newest title.

Movie Talk takes us to a bizarre location in which a way-station for suicide victims becomes a landmark for romance, comedy and zany SF fun. Craig Mazin (Scary Movie franchise) is at it again and this time he is taking on all our favorite Superheroes in a send-off to the genre.

Award winning actor Andre Braugher shares his thoughts about the new A&E miniseries based on the Michael Crichton novel “Andromeda Strain” in our TV Talk segment. We also take a look at a proposed SCI FI Channel miniseries for 2008 called “Diamond Age,” based on Neal Stephenson best selling novel.

The clouds of mist depart and what we see in the Slice of SciFi crystal ball of the future is Frank Miller’s first full solo directorial debut of “The Spirit,” the film adaptation of Will Eisner’s groundbreaking graphic novel. You will be awed by the cast in this one.

We know you’re relaxed after all that turkey, so this is a perfect time to kick back and enjoy the show. And, for our international audience who may not have gorged themselves on large portions of the flightless bird, any excuse to let you get away from it all and escape into the world of SF/fantasy news and entertainment is a good one, and Slice of SciFi Show #136 is just what the doctor ordered.

Slice of SciFi Show #136 ready for download on Saturday, November 24, 2007 and from XM-Satellite Radio’s Sonic Channel this Monday, November 26, 2007.
