NBC Hyping Phenomenal Reality TV

October 23, 2007 By Sam Sloan 7 Comments

Mentalist, Uri Geller and mystifier, Criss Angel, are in search for the next phenomenon! New television show, “Phenomenon,” premieres on NBC Wednesday, October 24th at 8/7 central!

Here is the network’s pitch for their new reality show that claims to delve into the mystical world of mental power.

PHENOMENON
uf_geller_122206.jpgmindfreak1.jpgAn intriguing and mystifying meeting of the minds takes place on live television when famed mentalist Uri Geller and world-renowned mystifier Criss Angel (“Criss Angel Mindfreak”) conduct an intensive search for the next great mentalist on “Phenomenon.”

The exhilarating and mystifying live show is based on a successful Israeli version judged and monitored by Geller, which achieved a historical record-breaking viewing audience. The series showcases 10 carefully selected mentalists who will compete live against one another each week by demonstrating a wide spectrum of mystifying talents on a panel of celebrity guests who experience the spellbinding illusions along with the studio audience.

Together, Geller and Angel will assess the contestant’s talents each week and offer their unfiltered opinions. Ultimately, the fate of the winner is in the hands of the viewers at home, who will vote to determine which competing mentalist will receive the grand prize of $250,000 and become the next great mentalist.

“Phenomenon” is executive- produced by Suzy Lamb (“Grease: You’re The One That I Want”), Michael Agbabian (“Last Comic Standing”) and Dwight Smith (“Last Comic Standing”). The series, based on a successful Israeli version judged and monitored by Geller, which achieved a historical record-breaking viewing audience, is a Granada America/Keshet Broadcasting/Kuperman Productions co-production in association with SevenOne International. SevenOne International controls the worldwide rights to the program.

Now here’s my pitch:

STAY AWAY
If you have nothing better to do with your life for one hour on a Wednesday night, or are a reality show junkie, then you are going to love this program. If, however, you are like most “normal” human beings, you will want to schedule that root canal for this time period. It will bring you more pleasure and if the dentist uses the right kind of gas mixure, could be more of a mind-trip than this show could ever hope to give you.

If your not convinced I’m correct “Phenomenon” airs beginning this Wednesdays on NBC (8-9 p.m. ET) and will host a special two-hour LIVE episode on Halloween night, October 31 (8-10 p.m. ET). But, after watching this show, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

This is exactly the kind of crap we’ll be seeing 24/7 once the writer’s strike takes hold.

I’m staying away simply because I’m sick and tired of the frakkin’ promos takin’ over half the frakkin’ screen during any NBC show I watch.

I refuse to watch on that basis alone….

Does anyone remember when Uri was humiliated on the Carson show when Johnny provided the spoons and he couldn’t bend a damn thing? Maybe that was harsh but he should have called himself a magician instead of pretending to have “powers”

    Long live the Amazing Randy!
