Slice of SciFi News Briefs

sosf-news-briefs-logo.jpgOn October 2 CBS Home Entertainment will launch its Season One DVD release of “Jericho.” What will be unique about this offering is the way CBS will be hyping their product. Instead of using the usual technique of boasting about how great the show was, they have decided to get on the “Save Jericho” train and push the DVD with an massive add campaign with the tagline — “Save It Again…On DVD.” Hmmm, if they had used that much ad energy in the first place before the show originally aired, perhaps this “Save Jericho” effort wouldn’t have been an issue in the first place. Regardless, go out and buy the DVD. Not, just to lend support for a series that should get more than 7 more episodes in the next season, but because it’s a pretty good show on its on merit and deserves a strong fan following.

The World Series of Video Games has closed down right in the middle of its second season of existence. The cause? The gaming series couldn’t get enough sponsorship. The enterprise that was once thought to be the pinnacle of big league video gaming, one that made a lucrative deal with CBS Sports for national airtime on the network, has sputtered to an abrupt halt. One of its main competitors, World Cyber Games is fairing a bit better at this juncture, however, the jury is still out if it too can continue to draw the revenue needed to continue in the big leagues of network and cable programming. All is not lost. Both events will continue as they focus more on what has worked for them in the past — Videogame Websites.

Yeah…..Richard Kelly, director of the upcoming SF movie “Southland Tales,” has now stated that the movie is done. We think it only appropriate that since it has taken Kelly so long to get this project off the ground and on film that the movie’s runtime of two hours, 24 minutes seems a bit prophetic. “Southland Tales,” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Seann William Scott and Sarah Michelle Gellar, opens November 9, 2007.

I just hope they stick to stop motion animation and paper backgrounds of the original TV series of Paddington Bear.
