Slice of SciFi News Briefs

August 17, 2007 By S. K. Sloan 2 Comments

Stargate: SG1’s Michael Shanks has the lead in the upcoming SCI FI original movie “Mega Snake.” In this SCI FI Saturday flick he does battle with a giant snake that has supernatural powers. The movie premieres August 25th at 9PM ET/PT and features an appearance by Matthew Atherton (Feedback), winner of last year’s SCI FI Channel show “Who Wants to Be a Superhero?” starring the great Stan Lee.

Smelling huge future returns on their investment, the powers that be over at MTV Networks plans on investing over $500 million in video games. Over the last decade the video gaming industry as seen phenomenal growth with no slow down for the foreseeable future.

Janel Parrish, who starred in “Bratz: The Movie,” will appear in a few episodes of NBC’s hit sci-fi series “Heroes.” She will play May, the head cheerleader at the new school that Claire (Hayden Panettietre) attends.

The 7th season premiere of “24” will be delayed due to production problems that have recently plagued the shooting schedule. The show was due to start filming on Monday, August 27th, but has been postponed until September 10th for script completion. Other delays came about when an original story idea that was greenlit and set in Africa got shelved forcing writers to start over with a new season long story arc.

The Bruce Lee classic “Enter the Dragon,” will be remade by Warner Bros. Independent Pictures and get a new name. The original film hit theaters in 1973. This new version will be called “Awaken the Dragon,” and will be written and directed by Kurt Sutter (“The Shield”). Since the film was just announced there is no casting news at the current time.

Ok, first off, a giant snake with supernatural powers? What the frell have those guys been smoking? Although, I am glad to see SciFi holding up it’s end of the bargain with Feedback. Of course, he’ll probably only be on camera for about 5 seconds.

Secondly, remaking “Enter the Dragon?” Are they insane? That movie is a classic and shouldn’t be touched. You hear that whirring sound? That’s Bruce Lee coffin becoming a gyroscope!

Mega Snake? Do I need to make a statement on just how stupid this sounds? Oh, I just did – Never mind.

Awaken the Dragon; oh yes, making that small change to the title makes it sound like an original project – NOT! What an idiotic idea. Not only are there no knew ideas it seems producers are competing to see who can make the most moronic projects possible.

Enter the Dragon is a classic not only because of the great martial arts scenes but in large part because of Bruce Lee’s personality. That’s something which can’t be replicated.
