Update: Pick a “Transformer” For the Sequel

July 19, 2007 By Sam Sloan 4 Comments

I must be the only geek left in the known universe who hasn’t seen “Transformers” yet because when I saw this poll, I was stunned that one of my favorites from back in the day — Soundwave — didn’t make it into the movie.

USA Today has a poll up for fans to pick their favorite (that wasn’t in the current film that is) to be featured in the next installment of what could be the “Transfomers” franchise. The voting will count heavily in the new robots featured in the upcoming film.

“We want what the fans want,” says producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. “We’ll listen and see if we can discern if what makes sense and what kind of movie they would like to see.”

Choices include: Ravage, Shockwave, UltraMagnus, HotRod, Devastator, Jetire, Soundwave, The Insecticons, Grimlock.

Alot of people are mistakenly calling the Decepticon that transforms into a CD player in this movie “Soundwave”, when his actual name is “Frenzy”, who was one of Soundwave’s cassette tape henchmen on the original show. Fans are currently speculating that Soundwave could be a high-tech communications van of some sort. In one early version of the script, Soundwave was the name given to the communications-disrupting helicopter finally known as Blackout.

Interesting that they have Devastator on there too, considering the screw-up/argument between Hasbro and Bay with the subtitles mistakenly giving that name to Brawl.

Well it is realy good to see someone else who remebers the screw-up between Hasbro & Bay in miss namiming the Treansformers.
I have seen the movie it is realy well made, But… There are some big problems that I have seen in this movie.
    1. The Autobots allways moved the fight away from the people so that they will not get hurt.
    2. Transformers (All) in this movie where just to much junk robot and not enough Transformer.
    3. They did not have enough the Transformers story in the movie and to much sci-fi (black-opps) in the movie, not at all like the Orignal Shows.

Well it will be interesting to see how they might do the next movie if they do do it.
And hopfully they will go back and watch the orignal Transformers Cartoon Shows and learn about them. Or Have someone like Me of someone else whpo is a real fan help them doing the next film.

Well, the Transformers I would pick would be these, for the Autobots: The Dinobots or Omega Supreme(the original size, but I think he’d be too big, maybe not.)The dinobots would a nice comedic addition whereas Omega Supreme would be a serious addition. Omega Supreme would kick any decepticons butt because of his size, but if the movie people want the Autobots to go anywhere they would need Omega, because thats how they traveled between earth and other planets.
For the Decepticons, I’d pick, The Constructicons to form the
actual “Devistator”. I thought it was kind of cool that they made a “Devistator” but I thought it was kind of lame that they would name him after a simple tank. Either that; I’d say, Shockwave on Cybertron.
I would definitely want to see Cybertron, because if more Transformers are coming, it would be nice if the people who are making this movie would explain where the transformers originally came from.

The movie tried to make the story as realistic as possible. That’s why they did away with inexplicably dopy things like Megatron turning into a tiny little gun and Prime’s trailer appearing out of nowhere when he transformed. With this in mind I hope we never see Insectacons or Dinobots. Even as a kid they made no sense to me. The whole point of transforming is to hide. how is changing from a giant robot into a giant robotic insect hiding?? I always figured they were just products of Hasbro running out of ideas. The Transfomers need change into vehicles and every day items otherwise, what’s the point. I’d like to see more of the classic characters like Mirage, BlueStreak, Hound or Prowl or even the Triple Changers. Here’s a personal pet peave. Why – in the year 2007 – can’t Hasbro get around their “relitave size” issue? I have all the new Movie Transformers and they don’t look like they belong in the same physical world as each other. Blackout and Starscream are only slightly larger than Bumblebee, Jazz and Barricade and Ironhide and Ratchet are actually larger than Brawl. That really bothers me just having them on display, forget about actually trying to play with them.
