Patinkin Quits “Criminal Minds”

July 17, 2007 By Sam Sloan 7 Comments

patinkin_ma54965_150×200.jpgMandy Patinkin has walked out on his role from the critically praised CBS hit drama “Criminal Minds.” Some are citing the reason for the actor’s decision to quit the series as “creative differences.”

This is not the first time Mandy has left while his show was still on top of the ratings heap. Twelve years ago he left another CBS drama called “Chicago Hope,” while it was in its prime stating he wanted to spend more time with his family.

This departure from the daily grind of pumping out such a dramatic performance from the man made for Broadway leaves one to wonder if Mandy may be open to coming back to the rumored proposed big screen production of “Dead Like Me.”

Actress Ellen Muth, who headlined the cast of “Dead Like Me,” has already indicated her willingness to return to the project if it gets greenlit.

Most fans may remember Mandy Patinkin from his iconic role as Inigo Montoya on the film “The Princess Bride,” which celebrates its 20th Anniversary this year.

Stay tuned.

“Critically praised”? Really? Most of the articles I’ve read about the show have called it derivative and needlessly graphic.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholding critic I would imagine. I’ve read the same thing from some critics, but most found it worthy of a good line or two in their columns….but, coming from that ilk, what the heck do critics know….it’s our bread and butter to be a little snarky… 😉

For what it’s worth, my wife and I are watching this show in the UK (currently showing Season 2), and we think it’s great!

That being said, there is only one reason that I started watching it – Mandy Patinkin… When it was first advertised over here, I thought “Oh look – it’s the guy who played Greg in ‘Dharma & Greg’… Doesn’t look that interesting, and OH MY GOD! IS THAT MANDY PATINKIN?!?! I’m gonna watch it!”

Yeah, my wife thought I was mad too…

It sucks to have a person leave during the prime of the show but it always happens. Are you all fans of the show “Criminal Minds” or just fans of Patinkin? I like shows like this & there’s going to be one on Spike TV called “The Kill Point” with John Leguizamo, who comes out as a bank robber, & Donnie Wahlberg, who comes out as the negotiator. It’s airing on July 22nd @ 9pm and its going to be going on for 8 episodes. I know this information because I work with them! If you haven’t seen the previews yet, you should definately check out http://killpoint.spiketv.com!

Does anyone have any info on the anti-semitism lawsuit brought by Seth Patinkin against the City of Bloomington, Indiana? He is a cousin of Mandy… would love to hear about it if anyone has info.

[…] He’s a great actor, but based on his track record of walking out of shows, I’m guessing you don’t want him as your leading man….. […]
