Horror director Joe Dante (who made our list of famous directors in a recent SoSF poll) is putting together a little something called “Trailers From Hell.” Don’t look for this one in theaters, it will be distributed via the Internet and cell phones. For more, visit Trailersfromhell.com.
Slice of SciFi has learned that actor Sam J. Jones, the blond heart-throb from the 1980 big screen version of “Flash Gordon,” may be making a cameo in SCI FI Channel’s new weekly series about Flash. Sam can be seen in the new horror flick “Revamped,” due out in October of this year.
On this past week’s Slice of SciFi show #116 we were going to do a story about the disappearance of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s long delayed film “Southland Tales,” asking the question — whatever happened? However, due to time contraints we had to cut the story from the script. Now we can report that “Donnie Darko” director Richard Kelly, who is also helming this project has announced that he has almost completed post-production on the film. The movie got a look-see at both the Sundance Film Festival and Cannes. It was so poorly received that Kelly immediately pulled it from distribution and went back to the editing room to streamline the film. Besides The Rock, “Southland Tales,” a near future post-apocalyptic film, also stars Mandy Moore, Seann William Scott and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Richard Kelly is also in pre-production for the new horror-thriller called “The Box,” starring Cameron Diaz.
“Burn Notice,” a modern day action-thriller starring Jeffrey Donovan and Gabrielle Anwar made an impressive showing for its debut on the USA Network this past week garnering a little over 4 million viewers for a Thursday night.
Screenwriters John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky (“King of the Hill”) have been hired by Warner Bros. to do some rewriting on the script for the upcoming “The Jetsons” film. Director Robert Rodriguez and producers Donald De Line and Denise Di Novi are said to have really wanted the pair on this project.
Pixar has put out another really cool and cute short film called “Lifted.” It can be viewed on iTunes for $1.99 and tells the story about teenage alien trainees learning how to abduct sleeping humans. “Lifted” is directed by Gary Rydstrom who has worked on many SF projects in varying capacities. Some of his films include Spielberg’s “Minority Report,” “The Hulk,” “Peter Pan” and 2002’s “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones.”
It’s only about 5 mins long so you probably saw the entire thing in the theater.
Huh, we saw something that sounds a lot like that right before Ratatouille. I wasn’t even sure if it was just an oddball preview or what. Does anyone know if we saw the full thing in the theatre, or is there more on the iTunes version?
