Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury?

June 22, 2007 By Sam Sloan 2 Comments

jackson-samuel-l-photo-xl-samuel-l-jackson-6224058.jpgSamuel L. Jackson is currently on the set of “Lakeview Terrace” shooting scenes for this gripping thriller about a bigot LAPD cop named Abe Turner (Jackson), who pulls out all the stops to force out the interracial couple who just moved in next door to him. But that’s not the really cool Sam Jackson news I have for you.

Sam has stated that he is working to get a screenwriter to write up a script for “The Long Kiss Goodnight 2,” a sequel to his highly successful spy thriller “The Long Kiss Goodnight.” The original film starred Jackson and Geena Davis in one of the most action-packed thrilling cinematic rides ever put on the silver screen.

Yet, that’s not all — In the recent past Sam, has stated that he would like to play the part of Nick Fury if that character should be a part of the Jon Favreau “Iron Man” flick coming in 2008. If not, then he would hope Fury is in the inevitable sequel and he wants the role.

“Nick Fury would be great to play,” Jackson once stated to ComicBookMovie.com. “I’ve been reading Nick Fury since when I was a kid. I collect comics. I’m kind of geeky.”

As to his chances to get to wear the eyepatch? Recently he made it known that — “I see [Marvel movie producer] Avi Arad a lot, because we live in the same neighborhood. I express my interest in [working with him]. I always wanted to be Iron Man, because he was always like the rich dude who created this whole thing. He’s not really kept as a superhero, he just creates stuff to make himself a superhero as a rich guy.”

We have the Nick Fury information on pretty good authority that it is going to happen and Sam will get his wish, but for now we’ll just treat it as reliable rumor control. Personally, I think Sam would look great with the patch, day-old facial hair and a scar.

I don’t think its an accident that Marvel’s ULTIMATES comics have Nick Fury drawn as a dead ringer for Jackson…

That’s right. As I recall in one of the early Ultimates, the group was sitting around saying who they wanted to be played by in a movie. Fury wanted to be played by Samuel L. Jackson.
