The Future is Trying to Tell Us Something
“Slice of SciFi” is holding a contest for “The Last Mimzy”!
We will pick 3 winners at random, based on email submissions, and each winner will receive a MIMZY prize pack.
Send your emails to contest at sliceofscifi.com. Entry submissions close March 30, with the winners to be selected and announced on “Slice of SciFi” Show #103, for April 4th.
In theaters March 23rd – Based on the acclaimed sci-fi short story by Lewis Padgett, The Last Mimzy tells the story of two children who discover a mysterious box that contains some strange devices they think are toys. As the children play with these “toys,” they begin to display higher and higher intelligence levels. Their teacher tells their parents that they seem to have grown beyond genius. Their parents, too, realize something extraordinary is happening. Emma, the younger of the two, tells her confused mother that one of the toys, a beat-up stuffed toy rabbit, is named Mimzy and that “she teaches me things.”
As Emma’s mom becomes increasingly concerned, a blackout shuts down the city and the government traces the source of the power surge to Emma’s family’s house. Things quickly spin wildly out of their control. The children are focused on these strange objects, Mimzy, and the important mission on which they seem to have been sent. When the little girl says that Mimzy contains a most serious message from the future, a scientific scan shows that Mimzy is part extremely high level electronic, and part organic! Everyone realizes that they are involved in something incredible… but exactly what?

So I guess I’m stupid, but what’s the contest? Guess what the secret is? Wouldn’t we just have to read the short story?
Sam says
The contest is — who can be the first random 3 emails picked by our blind pirate studio parrot called ChiChi. ๐
Oh yeah….we forgot to mention – be sure to put The Last Mimzy contest in the header of your email so we know what it is for without having to look all over for it – remember the blind parrot……

My daughter saw the trailer for this when we went to see Terabithia. She’s interested in seeing it, but it sounds a little confused to me. Maybe it’s the time travel thing that doesn’t really seem like time travel.
Still, I’ll toss an email your way. Thanks for the heads up about the subject, Sam.

Mimsy is British slang for a ladies intimate department in some parts of England. I look forward to this film being released in the UK so I can make cheap gags about people going to see ‘the last mimzy’.
Keep up the good work!

We just got back from the preview of this movie and I LOVED it. It could have told more of the back story of how Mimzy came to be and the other mimzys but it was a fun movie. I am 14 and I GOT it, some of the kids younger that me were confused by the ending but loved the movie as a whole. Take a chance and go see it.

I don’t ususally go to the theater to see movies… but HAD to see this one…. why? My best teddy bear artist friend actually MADE Mimzy for New Line ๐
I went to the March 10th sneak preview with my husband and 18 year old daughter… and we ALL loved it! My husband is VERY picky about movies by the way….
I fell in LOVE with Rhiannon Leigh Wryn – who played Emma. Her facial expressions were adorable and so appropriate! Casting certainly knew what they were doing when they chose her. I also loved the brother/sister rivalry and love that was shown in the story.
I was a little confused in the beginning…. because Emma’s mom and dad physically look very similar to Noah’s teacher and his finacee. Won’t say any more than that as I don’t want to spoil the movie for you.
WHen the movie ended… the first thing I wanted to do was to see it again! I will be going again when it is released on March 23rd…. and buying the DVD when it is released…. and already have a Mimzy bunny on order that is being produced by the Tonner Doll company.

Hey could someone who’s seen it look at my post on the forum and comment with spoiler tags? I loved the short story but want to know if they changed it a lot.

The last Mimzy contest, great story!

Mailing address? I don’t remember if I put my mailing address in the email!
Egads. Um, Summer, if you’re around, should I toss another email your way with my address or just let you folks get back in touch with me in the unlikely event I win?
