Abrams To Direct “The Dark Tower”

February 14, 2007 By Kyle Nin 5 Comments

045228469401lzzzzzzz.jpg>Our friends over at IGN, in an exclusive, have learned that J.J. Abrams is poised to direct “The Dark Tower,” (Codename “Cloverfield”?) based on the Stephen King literary series. Abrams’ production company Bad Robot had “no comment” on the matter.

Sources stated that an official announcement is forthcoming. At this time it is not known if the project will be for a film or a TV miniseries. IGN had speculated from what they have learned that the latter is a more likely prospect given the complex nature of King’s seven-book series.

“Given Abrams’ success on the small screen — and King’s well known love for the Abrams-produced TV series Lost — the tube seems a better fit for The Dark Tower, stated IGN in their story. However, from new info, IGN now has reason to believe the project will be for the big-screen.

In other breaking news concerning J.J. Abrams, trustworthy sources are confirming that he will indeed only be producing Star Trek XI and will not be sitting in the center seat for the highly anticipated Trek flick and the search is on for a director.

Interesting but I don’t think that any movie based on King’s work has ever translated to movies and TV.

The comic adaptation just started last week. It’s published by Marvel. The first one looks good: I have it, but haven’t actually read it yet.

Dark Tower is way too big to be done as a movie, or even as one movie per book. They should take the rate they’re going with the Sword of Truth series.

How about a 10-part miniseries (like “Taken”) for EACH book? I don’t think anything would be missing, then.
