Bill’s Official Word: “No longer feel a connection”

c10qshatner_0205.jpgIn William Shatner’s latest “ShatnerVision” interview with his daughter Liz, he makes some interesting comments concerning Star Trek XI and his possible involvement in the project. His most telling statements are:

“I really don’t know anything about it [Star Trek XI's production].” Looking at his daughter Liz, “You know more than I do.”

Now that the famed franchise has gone into its third generational audience, Shatner, who turns 76 next month, tells his fans, “I no longer feel a connection.”

Don’t let those statements from Shat scare you off. He is still a very strong supporter of the franchise and admits that he has been approached by the next film’s producer J.J. Abrams and they have talked about how to incorporate the older Kirk and Spock into the film. But, whether or not that actually will make the final script is anybody’s guess, even Bill’s.

james_mcavoy.jpgIn other Star Trek XI news IESB.net The Movie Reporter recently caught up with actor James McAvoy and asked him if any of the rumors that he may be playing a younger version of “Scotty” were true. When asked if he has yet been approached for the part, he basically took the “5th” and joked around about it. Here is the gist of what he had to say in the interview:

IESB: So you have been approached?

JM: Not in so many words.

IESB: So you would do it if you were approached?

JM: I don’t know to tell you the truth, I’m a Star Trek geek, fan, fanatic, so, anything about it could make me cry. But I’m not going to, I’m saving that for the talent show.

Sounds like an actor under tight restrictions and a script restraining order to me, which could mean — yes he is under consideration or just whimsical daydreaming on the part of McAvoy fans.
