Anne Hathaway Eyeing Famous Straight Man, er, Woman Role

November 21, 2006 By S. K. Sloan 3 Comments

Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada, Brokeback Mountain) is a signature to-the-dotted line away from starring opposite funnyman Steve Carell in the Warner Bros. big screen adaptation of the old classic TV spy satire “Get Smart.”

The original 1960’s television show, co-created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, followed the antics of Maxwell Smart, aka Agent 86, deftly portrayed by comedian Don Adams and his sidekick, Agent 99, played by Barbara Feldon.

Carell (40-Year Old Virgin & TV’s The Office) will take over the role of Smart, the bumbling spy with a shoe phone and, if Hathaway signs-on (it’s looking like she will), will take up Feldon’s Agent 99, the gal spy who always saves Smart’s reputation and the day.

Shooting begins in March 2007 for a release date TBA sometime in 2008.

It’s Barbara Feldon, Sam. Was a big Get Smart Fan back in the day. Sad to see Don Adams go last year.

Hathaway definitely looks the part…she’s awfully young, though. There’s a certain poise that the character needs. Either way, so long as Andy Dick is NOT in the production in any sort of way (like he was in the TV re-imagining in the 90’s), I’ll check it out.

Yeah, it’s Barbara Feldon. I’m pretty sure of this, considering she got the name by marrying a distant cousin of mine, and my wife is also Barbara Feldon. 🙂

    Sorry kids…typo on the Feldon/Feldman
