Google Gets Trekified

August 10, 2006 By Sam Sloan 1 Comment

main.gifGoogle is inviting you to use your imagination and celebrate sci-fi history by using their free Google Earth, Maps and SketchUp to create your own sci-fi themed vision of an alien’s visit to Earth. Google will post these images on a special site they’re running concurrent with Creation’s Official Star Trek Convention running August 17-20. 2006 at The Las Vegas Hilton Hotel.

To get started you’ll need to download Google SketchUp. If you’re not familiar with Google SketchUp, Google has a few helpful training videos that should get you well on the way to making your contribution to this event. Go HERE for the tutorials.

Once you have your model ready to show, upload it to the 3d Warehouse.

Make sure to add the tag “scifi”, so they can find your image and possibly display it at the convention at the Google booth (which is the centerpiece of Creation’s exhibit floor in Las Vegas) and on Google’s site, and remember to respect copyright and other intellectual property rights when creating your vision. Deadline for entries is August 13, 2006!

Visit TREK FAN to see samples.

This is such a wonderful idea! I wish I could attend that convention. 🙁
