The Da Vinci Code Unlocks the International Vault to Box Office Gold

May 22, 2006 by Sam Sloan   || Category: Film News

code.jpgRon Howard’s film “The Da Vinci Code” starring Tom Hanks, Ian McKellen, Jean Reno, Audrey Tautou, Paul Bettany and Alfred Molina has just become the second biggest movie debut ever recorded for a weekend worldwide box office release. Number One is still “Star Wars” which holds the record at $253 million.

Dan Brown’s highly controversial novel brought to the screen under the adept skills of Howard has grossed over $224 million in its first weekend. The film’s US totals may or may not surpass “Ice Age 2’s” first weekend take but is still a long ways off from the US winner “Spiderman” which took in $115 million in its debut weekend just in the North American market.

We will have complete weekend totals for the Top 10 Films later this week.

Yeah, my hubby and I dropped $20 into that opening night total. And for a change I feel like I got my money’s worth at the theatre.
