Gibson Trashes Critics & the Bush Administration

March 24, 2006 By Kyle Nin 2 Comments

In an interview with TIME, filmmaker Mel Gibson decided to turn the tables and went out of his way to trash critics before they get the chance to tear apart his latest cinematic effort.

Mel’s newest directorial enterprise is “Apocalypto,” another historical piece set during the decline of the ancient Mayan Empire in Central America. Like his previous big box office blockbuster “The Passion of the Christ,” “Apocalypto” will be shot entirely on location and all dialogue will be in the ancient Mayan tongue.

Commenting on the blasting he took from critics over “The Passion” Mel said, “After what I experienced with The Passion, I frankly don’t give a flying f**k about much of what those critics think.” Making sure his own political views were somewhat expressed in the film Gibson declared, “The fearmongering we depict in this film reminds me a little of President Bush and his guys.”

Everyone who knows Mel is aware that he is no stranger to controversy and this latest endeavor of his only sparks that ever growing flame of Gibson dissention. “Apocalypto” is set for its big premiere this summer.

Man, the last genuine film Mel was in was Mad Max 2
I admire him for making something different, but they are too interlaced with his personal views for me. I think this has impacted on how critics have responded to his films of late.

Um, excuse me, but didn’t Mel make a shitload of money off of that Passion flick? I mean like in he wrote, produced, directed, and even had a big bite of the dvd distribution dollars?
Why should he care what the critics thought when he made mad money?
If he was smarting from anything the critics had to say, I’m thinking he was crying all the way to the bank.
