I never read the book and enjoyed both movies actually. Although I heard Stephen King did not like the first movie made. Apparently, he was involved in the remake and it is closer to the book.

My favorite is the original. Many of the characters could have been played by anyone and it wouldn’t affect the movie, but Jud, played by Fred Gwynne, can’t be replicated. His personality and look were perfect for the role. His performance in the Munsters TV series is equally well-cast.
