First Look: “Star Trek: Picard” The trailer for the new CBS All Access series is here

May 23, 2019 By Summer Brooks 1 Comment

The teaser trailer for the newest Star Trek CBS All Access series, Star Trek: Picard, has been released, 25 years to the day since the first airing of the Star Trek: The Next Generation finale, “All Good Things…”

Starring veteran Trek icon Patrick Stewart, the show is set in the year 2399, 20 years after the events of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and will also star Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Harry Treadaway.

During the trailer, an unseen female narrator is heard saying, “Fifteen years ago today, you led us out of the darkness. You commanded the greatest rescue armada in history. Then? The unimaginable. What did that cost you? Your faith? Your faith in us? Your faith in yourself? Tell us, why did you leave Starfleet, Admiral?”

After the cluster F of the first two seasons of Star Trek Discovery, it’s difficult for me to work up any enthusiasm for ST Picard. I’d like to think this time around the show runners got writers who have their s*** together, have some understanding of what Star Trek is supposed to be, and have created a compelling story for this show; but then again, seeing as the hack Alex Kurtzman was just kicked upstairs a few days ago; and he was running Picard, it’s going to take some serious damage control to set things right.

I’ll withhold final judgement until the show sees the light of day, but my expectations are at about ankle high right now.
