There has been a lot of controversy, arguments and more than one knock-down-drag-out over which zombies are the best, the original Romero slow Zombies or the fast undead in Resident Evil or even the ultra-fast ones in World War Z. It is time to bring this battle to an end and let the voting begin.
The winner will forever be the chosen Zombies favorite for all time.

Slow zombies all the way, mostly because they allow for more drama between characters, and give an impending sense of doom and dread. Fast zombies only allow you to be startled everytime they come onto the screen.
For an example, when Daryl Dixon found his brother as a zombie, you had a bit of an emotional part. That would not have been able to happen with fast zombies, because he would have been attacked by his zombie brother straight away, thus negating a highly emotional scene. What I mean is, how emtional of a part was it in 28 Days Later, when that girl’s father changed into a zombie. It was emotional but no where near as much as it could have been, because as soon as he changed, he attacked them, then they killed him, you didn’t get the drama from seeing him in his changed form which you would have gotten with slow zombies. That being said, 28 Days Later was still a decent film.
But I suppose some people prefer zombies for a few thrills and some action, while I prefer zombies for the drama and character development.

To me, you are asking between The Walking Dead (Slow), 28 Days Later (Fast), and/or Resident Evil (Ultra-Fast)…
I agree with DanVzare that slow zombies add to the heightened drama of seeing those you care about turn into a brain eater, but with fast zombies, you get the drama, plus the impending doom of maybe not getting away…

fast cracked out.
unless slow zombies swarm its generaly pretty boring and laughable to
watch creatures you can easily run from “terrorize”. gross out factor leaves fast making slow zombies borefests. last episode of walking dead worked terrrificaly having them swarm at least, show would be so much better if zombies started mutating has they get more hungry.
i never really got frightened of frankenstein or the mummy for that matter for that reason, its hard to get frightened when your yelling at characters “are you stupid?!?!?!, run forrest run”, it kills suspense factor.

I don’t think it’s a case of which is better than the other, because it all depends on what sort of horror you want. The slow zombies would be suitable for a creepy sort of horror, whereas the fast zombies would be for a suspense, in-your-face sort. Having said that, I’ve never been too sure about the fast zombies being the undead, the slow zombies of course, but I would think the fast zombies would still be alive.
