Citing the school shootings at Sandy Hook, actor Jim Carrey has decided he won’t promote the upcoming film Kick-Ass 2. The actor tweeted yesterday that he is not “ashamed of the film” but that given the recent events that he cannot “in good conscience support that level of violence.”
Carrey apologize to the film’s production team and stars for his backing out of support for the upcoming sequel.
Carrey plays Colonel Stars and Stripes, an ex-mafia member turned masked vigilante.
Universal, who produced the film, declined to comment on whether the actor is contractual obligated to promote the upcoming film and whether or not they would enforce the language of that contract.
Carrey was extremely outspoken following the tragic events at Sandy Hook last year, so it’s not surprising that he would want to drop out of promoting the next Kick-Ass movie.
Whether or not he’ll be allowed to not promote the film remains to be seen.
