Could “Dark Tower” Find a Home On Netflix?

Could “Dark Tower” Find a Home On Netflix?

May 6, 2013 By Michael Hickerson 2 Comments

With the success of House of Cards, Netflix is looking at expanding its original series line-up.

The streaming content outlet has a relationship with Ron Howard thanks to Howard’s work on the upcoming revival of Arrested Development.  So while Howard had Netflix’s attention, he pitched the idea of the company taking up the adaptation of the Dark Tower that’s been brewing for the past several years.

Nextflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos tells Stuff says the content provider could be interested.  A lot of the questions surrounding the project are how it would  be presented to audiences.  The current plan is a movie trilogy with a tv series that would take place between movie installments.

And now to break the hearts and incur the wrath of Firefly fans, we present to you Sarandos comments on whether Netflix would consider bringing back the Joss Whedon series like they have Arrested Development.

” It’s kind of been done, with Serenity, but yeah as a series,” he says. “Arrested Development was the rarest of birds in that the audience of the show grew larger than the original broadcast audience because people came to discover it years after it was cancelled. The Firefly fan is still the Firefly fan from when it was on TV and there’s fewer of them and they’re more passionate every year. Whereas with Arrested Development we’re going to be serving a multiple of the original audience. Any of the other shows we could bring back would be a fraction of the original audience.”

So, do you agree or disagree?   Please keep your comments rated PG-13, Browncoats!

Never saw Firefly during original release. But I am a Big fan now and I believe there is an audience out there if they gave it a shot and promoted it right.

I know I lot of folks who got into the show well after in ended. I’ve introduced it to a few myself… which reminds me I need to bug the guy I loaned my Firefly set to, he keeps “forgetting” to return it…
