If you’re knitting and selling your own replica Jayne hat from Joss Whedon’s short-lived TV series Firefly, Fox has a message for you — cease and desist.
Fox recently sold the rights to manufacture Jayne hats to Ripple Junction, a company specializing in licensed apparel. It also got its teams of lawyers out there, looking for any one making and selling hats and it shutting them down.
Lawyers have shut down various on-line outlets for purchasing the hats and are even pursuing those who purchased a pattern to knit your own hat.
Needless to say, this is not sitting well with fans of Firefly who see this as yet another indignity piled on them by Fox.
Think Geek, who sells the licensed hats on-line, posted this response to fans about the situation.
Several of the cast and crew associated with the show have Tweeted their responses and they are not happy with Fox. Adam Baldwin who played Jayne says that he doesn’t have a Jayne hat, but instead an Adam Baldwin one.

They cancel it…now they take the hats…sheesh.

Oh Fox, on the words of Will Wheaton:”Don’t Be a Dick.” It starts with the little things, letting fans have their hats to celebrate a show that you never appreciated. Then get the Glee folks to credit Johnathan Coulton and all the other artists you stole from. But Alas, Fox is reading the “how to” in stead of the “how not to.”
