With news that several of our favorite cult series are getting a potential second life on Kickstarter, many of you may be wondering when and if Firefly will join the rush for a fan-funded second life.
Unfortunately, series creator Joss Whedon says it won’t be any time soon.
Whedon tells Buzzfeed that he knows he’s made statements in the past about wanting to work with the cast from the series again, but right now he’s got too many other projects on his plate to give Firefly the time and attention it deserve.
“I’ve said repeatedly that I would love to make another movie with these guys, and that remains the case. It also remains the case that I’m booked up by Marvel for the next three years, and that I haven’t even been able to get Dr. Horrible 2 off the ground because of that,” Whedon says. “So I don’t even entertain the notion of entertaining the notion of doing this, and won’t. Couple years from now, when Nathan [Fillion]‘s no longer [on] Castle and I’m no longer the Tom Hagen of the Marvel Universe and making a giant movie, we might look and see where the market is then. But right now, it’s a complete non-Kickstarter for me.”
Ben Ragunton says
Bummed by this news, but there are only so many hours in the day. I would hate for Joss to take on another project only to have it, as well as the others he is already committed to, fall prey to mediocrity.
