“Game of Thrones” Star Calls For More Male Nudity

“Game of Thrones” Star Calls For More Male Nudity

June 19, 2012 By Mike Hickerson 5 Comments

Natalia Tena on "Game of Thrones"

Actress Natalia Tena, who plays Wilding Osha on HBO’s Game of Thrones, says the series needs to be more equal opportunity when it comes to full frontal nudity.

“I think it’s really unfair, every actor, any actress has had her t-ts out. Every single actress I know. Blokes it’s like, let’s see some @#$!. Do you know what I mean? Let’s make it more even,” she tells The Independant.

Tena memorably disrobed for a scene late in season two of the hit show as her character seduced Theon Greyjoy in order to facilitate the escape of the youngest Stark boys from Winterfell. Tena, who is also part of the Harry Potter films, says she had no issue with the nudity. In fact, she wanted a more authentic look to her character.

“I was a bit upset about the fact that they showed my minge without hair because I think my character would have a massive bush. I would have muff, like a muff coming down the thighs,” she says. “I don’t give a f–k about nakedness. As an actor, […] obviously if it calls for it. You’re not just going to get naked otherwise that’s just basically doing porn. But if it calls for it, I really think you should get over yourself.”

I think it’s an unwritten law somewhere that full frontal female nudity is ok as long as there isn’t any hair down below, but full frontal male nudity is a no-no. Want proof, look at GTA 4, people complained about it there. But personally, I agree with her.

What if there’s no hair down there on the guy either?

I have no idea, I don’t think anyone has tried that yet.

I think the big drawback is the pointy thing that sticks out on male frontal nudity. On Females, it’s just not obviously visible.

I’m going to veer a little off the subject since I see things a little differently (and I’m sure people will completely disagree with me on this), but why can’t men see a Vulva (female genitalia) outside of pornography? No, they have to have their intelligence insulted through pornography just to see one, and I don’t understand this level of thinking which classes breasts and pubic hair as “full” frontal female nudity — “partial” nudity would be far more appropriate.

Full frontal male nudity always includes a man’s full genitalia, female actresses get the luxury of hiding their genitals (which would be perfectly visible otherwise) with a Merkin (pubic wig), and 99% of them either demand wearing one or are required by a nudity double standard to wear one. With that said, I think this discrepancy in the level of nudity (here in the states) is completely unfair to men since their genitalia can’t truly be hidden.

“equal opportunity, full frontal nudity” equals fully visible female and male genitalia, in my opinion. This does not include (as the actress is trying to equate to) any other visible part of either genders body, period.

I realize Natalia is using “equal opportunity” in reference to the lack of male nudity in GOT, but I could honestly care less since there are tons of shows (and recent R-rated films) out there with nothing but full frontal male (genital) nudity in them, you rarely (if ever) see a woman’s genitals outside of porn — a point she obviously neglected to realize/mention…

Now, as a woman, I agree with Natalia about the realism of a bald Vag** in the contextual setting of this show and her character’s lifestyle, but it’s a fictional/fantasy show, so what would be the point of debating it? Either way, it’s something she chose to do and I applaud her for her courage!

Finally, it’s also nice to see a show which has finally crossed that final frontier — showing a woman’s genitalia outside of pornography.
