When it comes to bringing Catwoman to life on the big-screen, actor Christian Bale says his Dark Knight Rises co-star Anne Hathaway has the toughest role of anyone in the film.
“There are a number of people who feel that the Catwoman role has been defined previously,” says Bale. “So, I always saw Anne’s role as being the toughest job of any of us. In my case, I’ve stopped referencing outside sources. I now reference Chris’ own world of Batman as a guide to what I will continue doing.”
Bale went on to describe how Tom Hardy will bring Bane to life on the silver screen.
“I like working with him a great deal. He goes the whole hog. I know that Bane has been seen in movies before. But, in my eyes, Tom is essentially creating Bane for the first time so there’s great freedom for him to be able to do so,” Bale says.
He’ right about catwoman already being defined by so many other actresses in the role…I still can’t see Hathaway as catwoman…she’ll have to be pretty convincing for me to buy it.
I’m pretty sure Hathaway will indeed be pretty convincing. She’s quite versatile as an actress, you know.
I think that it’s the other way around; there have been so many different actresses that the live action roll really hasn’t been defined. And I don’t think any modern portrayal has done the character justice so she has a great opportunity to own it.
Sorry, but Eartha Kitt defined that character many years ago. That’s why the few other actresses to portray the character tried imitating her. And lets be honest, it was that twit Halle Berry who tainted the character with that poor excuse of a movie.
You can’t 100% blame Halle Berry for that travesty. You have to save most of the blame for the writer, the director and for whomever had final say in casting her in that role. And since we’re piling on Halle being miscast in superhero movies, save a little kick in the ass for whoever decided that she should replace Angela Bassett, who had already been cast to play Storm in the first X-Men movie.
Halle’s a good dramatic actress, she just wasn’t guided very well as to how to let her imagination run free and play a superhero, much less TWO different iconic characters. Maybe her agent should share a little in that blame, too.
I agree that they are to blame more as well. But lets face it, the lead actor/actress is mostly the one who catches the flack from the masses. And that film is mainly the cause of all the grumbling over Catwoman appearing in the new Batman Arkam City game as well as the new Batman movie.
I however cannot agree with her having any acting ability at all. She gets by on her “Visual Assets”. She was a horrible Bond girl, a weak Storm and a boring Catwoman.
And just to throw it out there, if they are going to continue with the rebooted X men, I think Christine Adams who plays Mira on “Terra Nova” would be a good choice for a new Storm IMHO.
I said “dramatic”… anything genre, including James Bond, doesn’t count. I actually have refused to watch “that 007 movie” because she’s a Bond Girl in it. 🙂
If she sticks to the mainstream, where she doesn’t have to stretch her imagination into our broad beautiful speculative world, she’s fine, just like the rest of the middle of the road performers.
Yes, I’m extra snippy because I think she never should have been Storm. Ever.
I hope Nolan continues adding new characters without telling their back stories. It was great watching Batman take on new foes without having to see how they came to be. If he tells Catwoman’s back story in DNR then it will ruin the movie.
