The good news is a writer has been announced for the sequel to X-Men: First Class.
The bad news is he’s one of the writers of X-Men: The Last Stand.
Simon Kinberg has been tapped by 20th Century Fox for the sequel. He served as a producer on First Class and was involved in producing and writing the last several X-Men films.
Skiznot says
Don’t see that as bad news. X3 was true to the spirit of the comic.
Summer Brooks says
Wait, what? Did you see the same X3 that I did? To me, X3 failed to hit the same marks that X2 did, and to me was the worst executed story of the first three.
First Class redeemed my hopes and beliefs that the X-Men stories could be told well on film. I also think that directly or indirectly, it’s Bryan Singer’s fault that both X3 and Superman Returns weren’t as good as they could have been. If he had guided X3 through production like he had the first two, and let someone else show us that a man can fly, I think both movies would have been better, and both franchises would be much better off.
Now, as long as Singer is on hand to “correct” any issues that might crop up from someone not as familiar with the X-Men universe as he is, I might be okay with him coming back on board as a writer.
