Up until a few hours ago, there was a slim hope for V might be back for a third season.
That hope is now gone.
ABC has decided to cut ties with the reboot series after two seasons.
Also getting the axe was No Ordinary Family.
Here’s a look at what they have picked up for next year, courtesy of TV Guide.
Considered an early lock at the network, Charlie’s Angels (which TVGuide.com had spotlighted as one of its 11 Promising Pilots) is a Miami-set remake of the 1970s series starring Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor and Annie Ilonzeh. Original series producer Leonard Goldberg, Drew Barrymore and Smallville‘s Miles Millar and Al Gough are all producing. Ramon Rodriguez and Robert Wagner also star as Bosley and Charlie, respectively. It comes as no surprise that ABC picked up Charlie’s Angels, which already has a built-in brand and audience.
Set as a possible companion to Desperate Housewives, Good Christian Belles (previously known as Good Christan B—-es) centers on former high school mean girl Amanda (Leslie Bibb), who, after her marriage ends in scandal, returns to Dallas, hoping for a second chance with those she once bullied. Darren Star (Sex and the City) is among the executive producers. Kristin Chenoweth, Jennifer Aspen, Miriam Shor, Marisol Nichols, Mark Deklin, David James Elliott, Brad Beyer and Annie Potts also star.
Following the underwhelming performance of Off the Map, ABC has invested in another Shonda Rhimes’ drama, Scandal. The series stars Kerry Washington as a professional “fixer,” or crisis management consultant. The show is based on the career of Judy Smith, who has guided such public figures as Monica Lewinsky and Michael Vick in their hours of need. Rhimes and Grey’s Anatomy‘s Betsy Beers will executive-produce. The series also stars Lost‘s Henry Ian Cusick, Katie Lowes, Guillermo Diaz, Tony Goldwyn, Darby Stanchfield, Jeff Perry, Liza Weil and Columbus Short.
Hoping to capture the captive audience Lost brought in, the network has picked up Once Upon a Time, a drama from Lost scribes Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. The show centers on a woman (Jennifer Morrison) who travels to a town where fairy tales are real. Big Love‘s Ginnifer Goodwin will play Snow White, while Lana Parrilla will play the Evil Queen. Robert Carlyle, Josh Dallas, Raphael Sbarge, Jamie Dornan and Jared Gilmore will also star.
ABC has also ordered period drama Pan Am, which follows the stewardesses and pilots of the titular airline are the stars of this sexy soap set in the Jet Age of the 1960s. Jonah Lotan, Christina Ricci, Margot Robbie, Kelli Garner, Karine Vanasse and Michael Mosley will star. Jack Orman (ER) wrote the pilot and will executive-produce with Tommy Schlamme (The West Wing), who is also directing the pilot.
The Count of Monte Cristo‘s tale is retold in the modern era in Revenge. This adaptation stars Emily VanCamp as its leading character, who rents a house in the Hamptons for the summer. Mike Kelley (Swingtown) wrote the script and will executive-produce. Ashley Madekwe, Joshua Bowman, Gabriel Mann, Christa B. Allen, Madeleine Stowe, Henry Czerny, Connor Paolo and Nick Wechsler will star.
In The River, a famed adventurer and TV personality (Bruce Greenwood) goes missing in the Amazon, and his family (among them, Joe Anderson and Leslie Hope) tries to find him. Project comes from the team behind Paranormal Activity. Oren Peli and Jason Blum will executive-produce. Eloise Mumford, Thomas Kretschmann, Paulina Gaitan, Paul Blackthorne, Daniel Zacapa and Shaun Parkes will also star.
On the comedy side, Tim Allen is returning to television in Last Man Standing, which was created by 30 Rock‘s Jack Burditt and Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum). Tim Fitzgerald (Allen) is fighting for his manhood in a world that is being increasingly dominated by women, including his wife (Nancy Travis). Hector Elizondo will also star.
Apartment 23 follows a bright-eyed Midwestern girl (Dreama Walker) who moves to New York, where she finds herself living with her worst nightmare (Krysten Ritter). American Dad‘s Nahnatchka Khan wrote the pilot. James Van Der Beek, Eric Andre and Michael Blaiklock will also star.
Man Up is a unique look at what it takes to survive as a modern man, as told through the eyes of three best friends (Chris Moynihan, Mather Zickel and Dan Fogler) and the women in their lives. Moynihan (A Mighty Wind), Ron West (Backdraft) and Kelly Kulchak (Psych) will executive-produce. Teri Polo, Amanda Detmer, Jake Johnson and Henry Simmons also star.

The thing that turned me off this show was it’s fans that I had the misfortune to interact with. Remember that old bumper sticker “Jesus, Protect Me From Your Followers”? I’m trying to think of one New V fan I met who wasn’t a sanctimonious jackwagon, and I’m drawing a blank.
bocoe says
Its fans? You hated the show because of its fans? Sounds pretty shallow. Though of course I know you are not that shallow.
Arkle says
I didn’t hate it; I never started. At first I was kind of looking forward to it. I grew up on the original (yes, I’m old enough to remember the original being on TV). Maybe once the whole series is on DVD I’ll give it a go.
Jayson says
I can’t say that I’m surprised and while I tuned in every night, I won’t really miss this one. However, I’m still pining away for “Brimstone”
Bronzethumb says
Yeah, my heart bleeds. [/sarcasm] At least it had a great finale. Humanity got what it deserved.
bocoe says
I like V and I unashamedly stuck with it until its bitter end. I was hoping it would get another chance out the gate. The storyline was finally coming together, but alas, it was too little, too late. I am sorry there were so many “Haters” out in TV Land.
Chuck says
I did watch every episode. And tried, really tried to get into the show. The acting, set design, pacing, and plot points all seemed sophomoric at best. I just could handle the effects up on the V ship either. The green screens just didn’t look right. Sorry, but this is one show I’m happy to see go away so I’m not forced to endure another year of “hoping” for a better “all of the above” improvements.
Tim says
Good riddance to a steaming pile of sucktastic garbage.
We had two seasons of waiting and hoping that somehow, some way, the “resistance” would usher forth a worthy foe to save humanity from whatever the Visitors had planned. What we got was endless wishy-washy commentary by flat personalities about how fighting a guerilla war was distasteful to those fighting it.
bocoe says
I guess we need 24/7 American Idol on television. Round the clock. It seems to be the only show the great masses are watching…YUCK!!!
scott345 says
And they cancel Off the Map, a show set in the Amazon for another show set in the Amazon??????
Mark F. says
Although I watched it regularly, I also thought it just a mess. It had a lot of potential, but they just couldn’t get their act together. I’m not at all upset over V getting the axe. I’m actually more bummed out about The Event getting canceled.
Chuck says
Both the Event and V suffered a bit from pacing. Too bad the major networks don’t take the BBC or even AMC approach. Define your series run early, say 13 … 2 seasons, or even a long mini series. That way we can get the quality across all episodes. Both V and the Event had great flashes every few weeks, but the effects, writing, acting, a plot holes just didn’t work.
Keiran Halcyon says
Charlie’s Angels? Really? Didn’t anyone learn anything from the Knight Rider and Bionic Woman reboots? Maybe I should start taking bets on when they announce a Dukes of Hazzard reboot….
Summer Brooks says
Keiran, shush!
You put it out there, now someone’s gonna try to run with it!
On second thought, maybe I should take a shot at a pitch, cash in on the remake mania, since I missed out on the dot com and real estate booms…
Chuck says
How about Dukes of Hazards, but this time Hazard County is overrun by Alien Vampires.
Loki says
Now that is a reboot!
Chuck says
Did anyone notice the PAM AM series description. Looks like someone is going after the Mad Men demographic and audience.
KGDC says
Well… at least I got to see Tyler get mirked before the series ended. That’s my glass half full outlook on this.
B says
ABC brings us for 2011-2012 TV season. DANCING WITH THE CANCELLED TV SERIES STARS. Five days a week all dancing all the time.
Michael Grey says
ABC execs are MORONS to cancel a great show like “V”
darren hunt says
typical why make a series then not finish it only in america least uk tv finishes what they start .few yrs ago it was invasion that ended on cliffhanger then stopped what a waste of fans viewing time abc and other us tv firms cant finish the job.
Bob says
Go to hell, ABC. You took away LOST and now V? You didn’t even allow them to tie up the loose ends for their viewers! What the f*ck is wrong with you? This is why I now refuse to watch ABC ever again. V was the only show that kept me tied to that station after LOST ended, and now there is no reason for me to endorse a station that has proved they care more about making money for themselves than doing what their viewers want. I hope CBS picks up V, that is a station that continuously gives viewers what they want (NCIS). ABC, you may think you can recapture the audience that loved the shows you axed, but you are sadly mistaken. Long live V, and f*ck you, ABC.

Story development of quality takes time… you can’t try these alacarte sci-fi offerings that may or may not return. If the old Star Trek had slash and burn dim-bulbs like you all, there never would have been a multi-billion Star Trek franchise in the first place. Guess what planted the hunger for sci-fi in the public mind? Sci-fi by design is a more intellectual, shall we say convoluted adventure not so much into fantasy as into what Arthur Clarke called “Predictive Fiction.” I’ve watched dozens of now defunct series on the Internet…. when they aren’t all chopped up… extending a storyline over an entire year with a six month hiatus in the middle DOOMS your offerings when they do not have to be doomed. I know you won’t listen but since I was there when serious sci-fy started being broadcast, you might want to give what I say more than a toss into the circular file. Hey, its your deal to kill… have at it.
