As “Stargate: Universe” gears up for its final ten episodes, producer Brad Wright says that fans can expect the series to pull out all the stops, starting with tonight’s episode, “Deliverance.”
“I’m pretty happy with the whole back 10,” he tells Blastr “I think we come back from the break very, very strong, with some really, really moving episodes and actually some big action stuff. ‘Deliverance,’ which is the second part of the two-parter, has a ton of action in it.”
All of that leads to next week’s “pivotal” episode, “Twin Destinies.”
“It’s actually a very big story too. It’s got a ton of scope and a significant amount of action, as well. … It sets up a huge story arc that will follow up the rest of the season. And I don’t really want to spoil it beyond that. I just want to say that there’s something that is initiated that takes place and carries on through the rest of the story.”
Wright says next week’s story is pivotal because “There’s some fairly compelling scenes between Rush and the rest of the crew that make everybody realize that ‘We need to be here.'”
After that, fans can look forward to “Alliances,” a story that focuses on the Lucian Alliances plans to attack Earth and some character work for Greer and Wray.
That episode is followed by “Hope” and “Seizure.”
“‘Hope’ is a beautiful character story by Carl Binder, some of his best work. And we see what the repercussions are of not having a doctor and medical training. And it puts T.J. really in the forefront of things. There’s also an interesting stones-related story that has repercussions that we move on into ‘Seizure.’ And in ‘Seizure,’ we try again essentially to investigate at least the possibility of dialing Destiny from another place in the Milky Way galaxy, because what we feel what we desperately need the most is a supply line. Even though we can’t go home, if we had support and help and resources from Earth, that would be fabulous. And that leads into the beginnings of the arc that takes us into the last episodes, which I don’t want to give away. We meet beings who we have a lot in common with. I’ll just leave it at that.”
Wright also says that some familiar characters from the “Stargate” franchise will make an appearance in the final ten episodes, including David Hewlett (aka Dr. Rodney McKay) and Robert Picardo (aka Richard Woolsey). We’ll also see guest turns from French Stewart and Victor Garber in the second part of season two.
One thing that won’t happen during the final episodes is the crew will not get comfortable in their roles on the ship. “We didn’t build this ship, and we really still don’t know what we’re doing. So we’re going to keep all of that very much alive going forward,” said Wright.
“I’m excited about the last several episodes of the show, and this season, I think, is a very strong season,” he said. “The back half is arguably stronger than the first in terms of some of the emotional touchstones, and it’s something I’m proud of. But being proud of something and getting picked up are rarely connected, you know?”
We’ve seen the first three episodes of the second half of season two and can tell you that everything Wright says about them is true. They’re fantastic.
“SGU” returns tonight at 10 p.m. EST on SyFy.

Ahhh…. This wonderful news just makes me hate “the channel that shall not be named,” that much more.

First episode was fantastic.. Rolled my eyes when I saw the advertisement for Marcel’s Quantum Kitchen….SU gets canceled and we get drivel about cooking…What are the heads of Syfy thinking….have they entirely lost their minds?
Summer Brooks says
Maybe improved ratings for these final episodes will sway someone else to pick it up.
And I will give Syfy some credit… they are attempting to cultivate shows with some science or science fiction related content.
I really really like “Face Off”. I hope they give us a few more seasons of that, build it into a monster competition franchise like Top Chef. And while I can’t stand Marcel, I would rather have Syfy try to make a go out of a show where there’s as much science as there is cooking instead of taking the lazy way out and add another 2 hours of wrestling per week.
I might not personally want to see something like Quantum Kitchen, but it’s not wrestling, so I have to thank them for that.

Of course as soon as the show gets intresting Sci-fi or Syfy kills it. Farscape, BSG, SG-1,SGA (need I go on?) However I do think trying to turn SGU into BSG was the 1st and biggest mistake. Perhaps “pulling out all the stops” when the show began could’ve and would’ve saved it?

I lost interest in the show early on (too dark and gritty for my tastes), but I would like to know if they get home. Especially Ellie (sp). He seemed like the nicest character in the bunch.

Perhaps having a storyline that is grownup. Less crying and whining by military officers. How about a ship that survives in hostel space for a million years but suddenly falls apart in a few months when humans come aboard, obviously automated repair robots systems were active, computers with voice interface and translation systems(my iPad seems more advanced than Destiny’s computer system).
Make a scifi show that has some advanced technology and less drama. Maybe then we can get some ratings and a show that lasts for 24 or more episodes(which used to be the definition of 1 season)!
Thrasher says
i will not watch the last ten episodes because it will not end properly and youll be stuck with No Conclusion to the show EVER so whats the point, good by SGU i quit watching when it was officially cancelled, a waste of time!
Peter Rabbit says
I am thrilled with the growth of the story lines and characters. I am tired of the haters, you will never be satisfied. Enjoy the show for what it is, an exploration into humanity. This is what all great sci-fi writing does. I hope WB or someone recognizes the shows potential.

If I wanted to watch BSG, I would put in a dvd and watch it. SGU is too much like BSG. I’m not surprised it got canceled. The Ely character was great but they even managed to screw him up too.
