Filming for the highly-anticipated and much-troubled “Hobbit” has hit another snag. A spokesperson for director/producer Sir Peter Jackson announced this morning that he was rushed to surgery for a perforated ulcer and that will delay filming of the movie.
Jackson, 49, complained of severe abdominal pains on Wednesday and after examination by his doctor was admitted to a Wellington, New Zealand hospital for immediate surgery.
“Sir Peter is currently resting comfortably and his doctors expect him to make a full recovery,” spokesperson Melissa Booth said in a press release. She went on to say that Jackson wanted fans to know that the surgery “is not expected to impact on his directing commitment to the Hobbit beyond a slight delay to the start of filming.”
Currently the release date of the first of the two-part films is still on target for December 2012.
An exact date for beginning of filming was not mentioned in the press release. However, since the original date was mid-February one can assume a good month or more from that time.
