Harris: Sookie Stackhouse Novels To End

October 26, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 9 Comments

The end is near for Sookie Stackhouse–at least for the series of novels about her exploits.

The best-selling series by Charlaine Harris could come to an end after the next three novels are published.

Harris made the announcement while promoting a new collection of short stories about Stackhouse and company.

“I’ve signed a contract to write three more after the one that’s coming out in May, and they may be the last three,” Harris told CNN. “Probably by then I will have lived with Sookie long enough.”

Harris said she doesn’t want to keep the books going if Sookie’s stories start feeling played out. “I hope I have enough sense to walk away before that happens.”

If Harris follows through on the current plan, the series would end at a dozen books.

The novels were the basis for HBO’s critically lauded series, “True Blood.”

Part of me is thinking it’s better to go out while you’re still on top (and she most certainly is at the top of her game). The other part of me is thinking “Couldn’t she just write another 20 or 30 books in the series first?”

I love these books to death but I would be happy to see her pull up at 13 (it will be 13 btw, not 12 – her contract is for three more after book 10).

That gives us four more books which is plenty of time for her to get the HELL rid of Bill, make Eric King of LA, get rid of this stupid blood bond that makes everything so messy and confusing and give Sookie and Eric their happily ever after 😀

I haven’t watched season 2 because I got bored (well, I did watch season 1), but when I saw how good looking and effective (villain) eric northman was in the last few episodes, I’m beginning to like it again. I’m quite frustrated though, I don’t like him ending up as a villain in True Blood. He should be the “real better half” of sookie stackhouse, because he can very well defend her and they make a good pair. He has this stubborn attitude yet, so attractive, I can’t even imagine hating him, or sookie for that matter.

Anyway, yes I think Harris should end the novels, and 13 novels is a good idea. I hope eric is the real lover, husband of the heroine both in the television and novels. His great appeal is what attaracts the viewers and the readers. Eric, your gorgeous!

I agree… they need to come to an end eventually. It better not be a twilight ending either where everything is summed up in one book way too quickly. It should start settling out and I’m still holding onto the idea that Eric is the real lover too! I love Eric and Sookie and it is obvious there is a build up of tension between the two through the whole series. I can’t wait to see what happens or if Sookie ever turns!

I’m on Eric’s side too ! He’s the best and I really think Sookie and him should end up together . I’m also very curious about the explanation he will give Sookie about the fact that it was Bill who saved her from the fae … Anyway GO TEAM ERIC !!

I just finished Dead and Gone and I agree with all of you thinking Sookie should en upp with Eric. I will be so disappointed if that wont be the case. Bill has not been there for her the same way Eric has, sure he saved her from the fae but Eric has saved her many times before while Bill has been of f doing his thing. Besides Bill cheated! He explained why he did it but he never excused himself.
Interesting to se why Eric couldn’t be there to save her…..and what happend to Bubba? How come the vampires only send Bubba to protect her? I would have thought Eric would send more vampires to protect her, I expected more protection even from the king….somethings fishy about that….

Who do you think Niall ment (Bill or Eric) in the end ??
I really hope he was talking about Eric. His character is great! Just adore him!

Ps. I’m from sweden som please excuse my english if it’s not correct =)

I just finished Dead To The Family and I think Sookie should get the blood bond to Eric broken. I mean she never said she loved Eric when they where not bonded and plus Eric tricked her into marring him. I think Sookie should go out with Sam because he truly loves her but he dose. In the books he always wants to protects always wants to know what wrong. Even though he dating a girl right now I bet he would love to go Sookie.

That bond thing makes Sookie not think strait so she cant really get away from Eric makes her almost his slave. And what happens when she gets old do you think Eric will stay No! With shapeshifter boyfriends she got a chance to have something real. They wont live for ever and age with her Alice is an okay guy he really likes her for she is not what she can do. But he slept with another woman and going have a kid so thats a no but their is a chance because she still likes him. Quinn he really like her but that bond buded into their flow and that thing with his family first thing which I respected. A man must protect his family but Sookie wanted to be his top priority. Sam is sweet he wants to be with her still wants her after seven years yes he dated women in that time sure but he always was their for Sookie. Plus she cold hardly read their minds.
