Last week, we told you about reports that director Bryan Singer was looking to resurrect his vision for “Battlestar Galactica” on the big-screen.
Now it’s official. According to Variety, the director has signed on with Universal Pictures to create an all-new “Battlestar Galactica” for the big-screen.
And no, it won’t have anything to do with the recently completed Ron Moore reboot of the series.
According to reports, the new version will follow Singer’s vision for a reboot to the series from the late 90s that was abandoned after the attacks on September 11, 2001. The plot line involving sneak attacks, Universal decided to not pursue the projects in the wake of the 9/11 attacks on New York City and Washington D.C.
Now, eight years later, Universal wants to resurrect the film and put it on the big-screen.

I think that this is a bad idea. It seems like Universal wants a fresh reboot just like Paramount got with Star Trek. BSG, however, already has had its fresh reboot with the successful TV series (which was IMO more successful than the original BSG). It is dipping twice from the same well before the well refills with water.

This can only lead to tears. It is faintly reminiscent of the Stargate dual timeline argument.

I don’t need another version of BSG, thanks. That story’s been told twice now.
If you want to remake something, go resurrect Space Above and Beyond or some other show that still has stories left in it. Or better yet, hire some real writers and tell us a new story. If the folks in Hollywood would spend more time working on original material like “District 9” and “9” and less time rehashing the same old stuff, the entertainment industry wouldn’t be as crappy as it is now.

Definitely a bad idea. Whats ever worse is that we will all pay to see it, just so we can log into an online forum somewhere and tell everyone how bad it sucked. lol

This has BOMB written and smelling all over it. The idea would have been great in 2001 without the surrounding events. Everything already commented I agree with. SPEND TIME ON ORIGINAL MOVIES AN CONCEPTS…or make a movie series off of The Dark Tower or Ender’s Game…wait…cancel that…you will just ruin more things I love. Hit yourself over the head so you forget what I just suggested.
The more I think about this…the more angry I get…I think its also a slap in the face to everyone that worked on BSG from Sci Fi Channel.

Bad Idea. While they’re at it, why don’t they remake the Dark Knight.
Can't believe what I'm reading says
This has greed written all over it. Does it not?!?!? I remember a while back that Glen Larson was a little pissy as to how well the show turned out being (Probably because he didn’t think of such good story lines) I’m getting the feeling this is a cheap end around so he can make the show all sunshine & roses again.
You remember how it was. No major character ever died, no women were ever mistreated, The ship just magically healed itself every week, no one ever disobeyed orders. The same five or six battle sequences every week, & blah, blah, blah… I know it was the seventies, but come on… Talk about playing it safe. The biggest risk the show ever took was to dig up a down & out Britsh actor, who know one our age even knew, tp play Satan. The risk was this could have disrupted the Christian & that could have caused protests that would have led to a potential dip in ratings.
I’m not going to lie. When I was eight, the original was the coolest thing I had ever saw, but I was eight. I fell out of love with it while in cindication. It was even more lame than the Original Star Trek (Sorry if that hurt some feelings out there, but it is what it is)
The Sci Fi show set a land mark for television writing & production quality. Now they’re gonna f*#%!!k it all up buy trying to make it better on the big screen with a Big name Director (Is he really though???)
Give it back to the guys & the cast who made it one of the best shows ever conceived, at least they will find a way of doing it right that we the fans will truly love & everybody can walk away happy because Hollywood made what matters most to them. A very hefty profit!

Terrible idea!
Cowardly producers don’t have the guts to film great novels such as Rendezvous With Rama. All they want is to keep milking old cows till there’s no milk left.
