With no new “Doctor Who” on the horizon and the David Tennant era coming to a close at the end of 2009, rumors are swirlling as to who may guest-star in the upcoming specials.
The latest rumor, reported by Outpost Gallifrey, is that one of the men who brought James Bond to life may step in for a guest-role in the final episodes of Tennant’s tenure. Rumor has it that Timothy Dalton may join the cast for the two-part end of an era.
Other casting rumors include actress Clair Bloom as the Doctor’s mother. There have been confirmed on-set sightings of several recurring cast members returning including John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness and John Simm.
Of course, these are only rumors until something official is confirmed.
And again, I say it–the Stephan Moffatt era cannot begin soon enough….

All I want to know is when the US will get to see “The Next Doctor”, “Planet of the Dead”, and the other upcoming specials. I feel left out. I guess this is what UK viewers feel like when they’re waiting for American shows to air over there.
WildNelson says
Since most American shows are crap, I doubt that. “Planet of the Dead” was one of the best episodes I can remember, btw.
Bronzethumb says
The reign of the Grand Moff will be glorious! In the meantime, I’m gonna rewatch Jekyll next chance I get.
The only one of those returnees I’m looking forward too is John Simm, which has more to do with my preference in character types than anything else. I’m terribly afraid that RTD is just gonna do another “Journey’s End” and cram in as much whiz-bang-special guest star at the expense of plot and character.
Merlin McCarley says
Indeed when Steven Moffatt aka The Vast Toffee (MN) takes over I will breathe a sigh of relief. Had enough of the RTD non-ending endings and generaly ubercrap season/sereis finals. Bronzethumb, from what I have read from many soruces your fears are well founded.

There only needs to be one.

The Question is, of the two basic Cable Channels that show Doctor Who in the U S (SCI FI and BBC America) who will show the 2009 specials first?
Ashe says
I’m pretty sure Sci Fi Channel (or SyFy, now, I guess) will get the Doctor Who Specials first. I think they have the exclusive rights to air the series first. Then, the episodes go to BBC America, and then to PBS.
Kyle Nin says
BBC America and The Sci-Fi Channel aren’t basic cable networks, at least not where I live. Sci-Fi used to be, but a few years ago it moved to digital cable.
Merlin McCarley says
Nither Sifi or BBCA have exclusives with DW. It is a sad state of affairs that is covered in detail on recent podcast from DWO:Whocast. The question to all of ye is, are you willing to pay for a BBC Telle license? For me it is an infatic yes. http://www.thewhocast.com/podcast/
Slye says
You could always do what i do… erm…. What i’ve heard of being done. Bit Torrents are cool… and i’m still gonna watch it whenever it gets shown over here./..
Pat says
It’s just been announced that BBC America will be airing the specials, beginning in June with “The Next Doctor.”
Michael Hickerson says
I’ve not heard anything from BBC America about showing the specials…..
And I figured they or SciFi would wait and run all the specials in a block…why only have two weeks of new content when you could have five?
Merlin McCarley says
Good news on that front. Looks like June 27 for “The Next Doctor” and “PotD” for sometime in July on BBCA. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118004221.html?categoryId=14&cs=1
