After 11 years online, one year ago Elfwood.com was set up as a small company. The reason was to ensure the future of the world’s largest sci-fi and fantasy community.

“We have doubled the daily average of visitors and turned around the negative trend of new material at the website. Not at least, we have secured the future of Elfwood. Cost for hosting and servers had become too high to handle as a hobby project,” says founder Thomas Abrahamsson.

In this new setting there will be more resources available to help out with development, maintenance and general improvements.

“The idea now is to develop additional features for those who donate to Elfwood, the so called Elfwood Patrons. We want to offer something special to those that support our community. We hope that those who value and use our services will do that and help us develop” Thomas says.

In the mean time, Elfwood is climbing the lists of most visited websites and just recently pushed in on the list of the 6000 most visited in the world.

Columbia Pictures will bring a new installment of its blockbuster “Ghostbusters” franchise. “The Office” co-exec producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky will write the script for a film designed to bring back together the original cast of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson.

WISEOZ.com is a unique social gaming community and a free contest-based community where members win prizes, participate, socialize, and connect through play-as-you-please games called “WiseWits”. It has been compared to “The Rat Race” meets The “Da Vinci Code”. WiseWits require an individual to apply experience, creativity, and know-how to solve clues across the virtual world by seeking out information or performing certain tasks. Clues are typically presented in the form of puzzles, image/video hunts, trivia, teasers, creative tasks, and riddles. WISEOZ is in the midst of developing a sci-fi/fantasy themed WiseWit involving clues related to the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher.

The FCC has notified XM that some of the company’s older receiver models (generally, those purchased before August, 2006) may not operate in the manner required by the FCC and may cause interference to nearby FM radio users depending on how the XM radio is installed or used.

The receiver models include the Roady2®, SKYFi2®, MyFi®, Airware®, Tao, RoadyXT®, Xpress™, Sportscaster, XR9-XCX9, Jensen JXR9, inno®, Helix™, and Nexus®. Please note this notice does not apply to you if your new car came installed with an XM receiver.

If you do have one or more of the receivers mentioned above and use it with the wireless FM option or you have had the receiver professionally installed, then XM Satellite Radio offers several options available at no cost to you to alleviate this possible interference. Please visit their website at www.xmradio.com/fmmodinfo or call them toll-free at 866-410-0096 to choose one of the following three options:

Option A:
XM will send you ferrite beads to attach to your XM antenna and power adaptor cables. (Ferrite beads are typically placed on the end of data cables to reduce interference.)

Option B:
XM will send you a replacement cassette adapter to use with your XM radio. Only choose this option if your car radio has a cassette player.

Option C:
If your car does not have a cassette player, XM will provide you with ferrite beads and an installation kit, with hardware, to use in connection with a professional installation of your radio along with a coupon redeemable at no charge for professional installation.

Please visit the following website, www.xmradio.com/fmmodinfo for more information and to select your option.

The fall box office season kicks off with the premiere of the Nicolas Cage hit man actioner “Bangkok Dangerous,” the Pang brothers’ English-language remake of their 1999 Thai film. However, many in the biz are expecting the domestic box office to begin showing a dramatic slowdown after a record breaking summer season.

“Sukiyaki Western Django” is the 2007 spagetti western Samurai movie from filmmaker Takashi Miike.

Definitely falling within the fantasy realm, it is an epic tale of blood, lust and greed that has one scene in which one of the characters is able to use his Samurai sword to cut through a bullet in mid-air. “Sukiyaki Western Django” is currently in limited release in some U.S. theaters. You can catch a trailer HERE and becomes available on DVD and Blu-ray November 11.

Academy Award winner Denzel Washington will star in “Book of Eli,” a post-apocalyptic drama that will be directed by Allen and Albert Hughes, according to Variety. Washington will play a lone hero who fights his way across an America devastated by an apocalypse.

I’m a Sirius customer and I got a similar notification. I wonder if that’s the reason why I get interference sometimes when cars pass by.
