Ever Carradine (“Women’s Murder Club”) has joined the cast of SCI FI Channel’s original series “Eureka” in a recurring role as the free-spirited sister of Sheriff Carter (Colin Ferguson). Show returns with new episodes beginning Jul 29.

Japan’s biggest astronomical observatories are teaming up for an unprecedented quest to find out whether there is life in outer space. The project, led by Japanese astronomers, will bring together a dozen or more observatories from all over the country to study one star that researchers see as a potential home to an extraterrestrial civilization, according to Reuters.
Sam Witwer (“Battlestar Galactica”) and Cassidy Freeman (“Starlet”) will join the cast of “Smallville” in its upcoming eighth and final season, which kicks off in the fall, according to SCI FI Wire. Witwer will play Davis Bloome, a charismatic Metropolis paramedic, who is forced to confront a burgeoning darkness inside of him that just might be a harbinger of doom. Freeman will play Tess Mercer, Lex Luthor’s handpicked successor who harbors her own brand of ruthlessness.
Finally, in smulch news, James Bond film producer Barbara Broccoli has paid $38,000 for a kiss from Daniel Craig, who was hand-picked by her to play the suave British spy on screen in “Casino Royale.” The money collected is part of the Great British Movie Event which benefits the National Film and Television School. Craig will return as 007 in the next Bond flick “Quantum of Solace.”

I watched Get Smart in a regular digital cinema last week and it was badly *pixellated* – what a let down. If any of my Blu-rays looked that bad I would send them back.
The IMAX folks will do better.

I think one reason cinemas (and iTunes for that matter) are doing pretty well just now is that intelligent people are generally disappointed with network TV.
SciFi channel is the classic example of network execs low opinion of their audience resulting in an audience worthy of their low opinion.
