Paramount Introduces Its First Blu-ray Entry

Paramount Introduces Its First Blu-ray Entry

April 30, 2008 By S. K. Sloan Leave a Comment

Paramount Home Entertainment, one of the last major studio hold-outs of the now dead HD DVD technology will introduce its first entry into the world of Blu-ray in May.

On May 20 Paramount offers up Jerry Seinfeld’s “Bee Movie” in Blue-ray as well as two Nicholas Cage films “Face/Off” and “Next.”

At the end of May and beginning of June the studio, will release its first two blockbusters on Blu-ray, “The Spiderwick Chronicles” and “Cloverfield.” They will, of course, continue to offer up all their releases on standard DVD as well and simultaneously with their Blu-ray releases.

What all these films have in common is they are SF or genre-based movies which look great and do very well in the new HD Blu-ray format.

One other title coming out in June on Blue-ray that fans may be interested in will be the Academy Award nominated film “There Will Be Blood,” starring Oscar winner Daniel Day Lewis in his gritty, compelling and stellar performance as one of America’s first oil moguls.

Paramount has plans to continue issuing its older titles, originally offered in HD DVD throughout the rest of 2008 on Blu-ray, so their may be hope yet for a remastered version of the original Star Trek series on Blu-ray.
