Better make sure you get the super-sized soda and popcorn as you head into Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and The Dark Knight this summer. According to reports on Dark Horizons, both summer blockbusters will have long running times.
The latest installment of the Indiana Jones series is reported to run 140 minutes by Hollywood Elsewhere and confirmed by composer John Williams. Williams said his working print of the film took seven cases. Each case held about 20 minutes of the movie.
Test screenings for Indy 4 are being kept under tight wraps. There has reportedly been one test screening of the film. Indy 4 will play for studio execs next week and then debut at Cannes.
Meanwhile, The Dark Knight is reported to have an initial running time of close to three hours. However, it’s unlikely the film will be cut down much despite Warner Brothers desire for a running time of closer to 150 minutes.
The Dark Knight’s longer running time isn’t expected to create much of an issue. Batman Begins ran 140 minutes. And initial reports from screenings indicate that director Christopher Nolan has created a cut that justifies the longer running time.
Indy 4 opens in theaters May 22. The Dark Knight hits theaters in July.

Well I’m glad to see Indy running long. I was hoping for a satisfying time at the theater. I hate it when it’s over quickly. Episode III of Star Wars ran shorter than it could have, with a lot of things rushed. So if Indy’s going to go out, I want him to go out with plenty of time.

Hear, hear, my friend. I just hope the real movie is better than the movie I saw in my dream last night. Yes, as pathetic as this sounds, I dreamt about the fourth Indy film last night. In my dream, I couldn’t have been more disappointed. I mean, the movie had one or two action sequences and they were mostly Harrison Ford getting into fist-fights. No chases, no shooting–no *whip*, for the love of God! His *son* had all the cool action sequences, and I thought to myself, “Boy, they took the whole pass-the-torch idea to a whole new level with this one.” I’m glad it was only a dream, but I sure hope it isn’t even a little bit prophetic. 🙂

I think you mean “don’t” get the super-sized soda. Wouldn’t want to have to leave in the middle of the movie!

LOL I made the mistake of getting a super-sized soda when I went to see “The Return of the King.” Whew! Never had to pee so bad my entire life!!!
As for an Indy V, if it does happen, I hope it doesn’t take another twenty years. We could end up watching Indy go on an expedition to find *himself*.

Mark,
That was my thought exactly. 🙂

Sure I’ll get an extra large drink, but I wish they’d just let me bring in a catheter too.
