We told you last year that this might happen and now can report that Warner Bros. has officially decided to turn the last Harry Potter film, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” into a two-part production.
Director David Yates and screenwriter Steve Kloves felt there was just too much ground to try and cover in one 2 hour movie and Warner bosses agreed. J.K. Rowling’s last novel of the seven was the longest to date for the Potter series (784 pages in all), one in which she tried to neatly tie up all the loose ends and the film wants to follow that same pattern.
Part one of “Hallows” will premiere sometime in November 2010, with the second making its theatrical bow in May 2011.
“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” the sixth book and adapted film for the franchise will debut on November 21, 2008. Yates will also be directing this one as he did the fifth film in the series.
The Harry Potter film franchise is now the most financially successful in film history, having surpassed the record long held by the James Bond movies. However, the big difference is Rowling’s Potter did it with only five films, where it has taken 21 movies and 40 years for Bond to accomplish that task.

Not to be a nit-picking buttplug, but the fifth book was actually the longest, and the accompanying movie felt like one long montage sequence, so I see this as nothing but good.
Sam says
Gazer you wouldn’t be the Beam we’ve grown to love without a little nit-picking every now and then. 😉
Eric says
I hate the idea of the story being broke into two parts. I see only greed on WBs part. I know that this is years away, but I say boycott part one.
Mel says
I am very happy to hear this.
